Yea, we've met.
I've blocked her name out of my mind, but I remember it was a woman. I have no problems with their concern about my logo. It wasn't ever designed to make people think my reclaimed chicken coop was actually a Land Rover Center, but it did look like the LR oval. And they own the word Rover, but I wish they would think more about embracing the Land Rover enthusiast culture instead of alienating the people who work hard to keep the Rovers going that the dealer/centers can't/won't.

Totally agree... I have been in litigation with them for 3 years...they freakin hate me by now...they received a judgement against me and all sorts of crap... they are now finally being reasonable and leaving me alone...but I am not done screwing with them yet... and yeah, I have met the woman as well over a law office table... I have access to well over 50 different domain names that they may consider to be infringing...LOL...they just have to prove its me and that it is directly infringing on their mark.... I have been to land rover infringement 101 course...I now know what I CAN't do...LOL....he says with an evil laugh..
And for any of you land rover lawyers out there who are reading this...BITE ME...

Hats off to you for fighting. The rest of us rolled over and changed names/domains on the advice that "it just isn't worth it to fight them" from attys.

I can understand the logo infrigement, but having legal right to the word "Rover" seems like a stretch. I am sure anyone with deep pockets could probably stand up to them, but obviously most of us don't.

Why are they so opposed to embracing the enthusisast market? I'd hazard a guess that they are embarrassed by their unequaled reliability history here and are trying to distance themselves from the people who suffer on a daily basis with cleaning up the mess they created. Or that they have products in every other market in the world that would sell well here, but they are afraid to bring a -gasp- turbo diesel to the US. I just want some respect for when they brag about the fact that 75% (or whatever number they use) of the Rovers ever made are still on the road. (And on the side of the road doesn't count). (Neither does Randy's Rover grave yard.) It's not because of the creativity, ingenuity, or craftsmanship available on the dealer level. Imagine a dealer mechanic performing a SVS bypass instead of fitting the same flawed modulator. ( I believe they probably can't do that due to the fact that they would be changing a system that was tested and certified in a particular way and attorneys would benefit enourmously; but, can you see my point?)
Sorry to hijack my own thread.
Any one want any of this stuff?

------ Follow up post added January 12th, 2012 11:26 AM ------

I should add that I honestly believe there are some very competent and detail-oriented guys and gals at the dealer, they just are likely to be stifled by politics and policy on a daily basis.

My attorney felt strongly that my use of Roverlab, RVRlab would stand up, but at what cost? I have more important things to do....

Its just a money grab by Atty's. Some smooth copyright atty convinced someone @ Jaguar Land Rover N.America that they were being damaged in some way and now are justifying rediculous hours charged by harrassing us. I love the phrase in the letters "we believe that your use of the word Rover might confuse our customer ". LRNA doesn't even import/support the part of the product line I deal with- and they certaintly don't support anything 25 yrs old.

The fact that the show Terra Nova calls the vehicles they use "rovers" and the lunar "rover" the mars "rover" etc. seems like Land Rover would have a tough row to hoe.

I looked up how many different company's had a copyright on the word "rover" and its astounding. That said fighting would be like Cervate's character Don Quixote fighting with wind mills

Finally got my 'letter' as well, sent it to the attny' and LR didn't copyright Rover until late '08, and our website went up 3/07. So, we did take down the Special Vehicles logo on the SOLD page, but hanging onto our domain for now...

Maybe we can class action sue LR for "mental anguish." I was lying awake last night worried about my Rover gettng wet in the torrential downpour and rusting away.

Yes. I bought a bunch of stuff from a guy who had performed a ARB and re-gear on a NAS 110, and they upgraded to stronger 1/2 shafts. I also have the backing plates, hubs, shoes etc. as they had converted it to disc brakes.
