It's actually a colloquial thing. I call the inner 'wheel' a rim. I call the rim and tire a wheel. And the rubber is a tire.

So when I blow a tire I swap the wheel (but I still refer to it as a spare). If I get curb rash I've damaged the rim. And when I get new tires I have them put on my old rims, wheel isn't a word I often use (unless I'm referring to a wagon)

Yep..you get a flat tyre or a bent rim.. You don't get a flat wheel..a new set of wheels means rims and tires, (or a complete car)..)... Bloody Americans..

It's a rim and a hub that makes a wheel. And a tyre is just that - and a tyre mounted to a wheel is a still a wheel just with rubber on it. Crikey.

Ha ha ha
