300 tdi 380 trans

I'm selling the motor out of my defender 110. It is a 300 tdi with about 50k miles on it(I don't know where exactly the motor came from---I think it was a discovery). The transmission goes with it, too.

The motor is in the vehicle and you can drive it yourself. It starts right up and runs clean. It does leak a little oil out of the bell housing and the oil pan(needs a new oil pan--it's been repaired).

I'm new to defender club and don't know much about these motors or even land rovers in general. I bought the 110 to make the ultimate family crawler/trail rig. The 300tdi doesn't do it for me so I'm selling it and going with something else.

Any offers?

Matt

to admit that this is a surprising opinion...
Are you sure your engine is running well ? Is this a ECU or
a non-ECU Tdi ?
The 300 Tdi is the last straight and simple engine made by
Land Rover, after that it's all electronic and headaches.
It's an exceptional engine for trails and expeditions.

I can tell you something, you are going to sell this thing fast...

Is the problem not enough power?? If so, you can increase the power quite a bit for very little to no cost. Let us know and we can direct you to information in this regard. I haven't met anyone unhappy with a properly tuned 300TDI.

I'll give you 3000 for it or put in your next engine in trade. Need to know what you are putting in next first I guess. But if it is a 2.8l powerstroke that would cover it.

What are you doing??
are you selling a 300Tdi (no electronics) for a Power Stroke?
are you replacing a 300.000 long-lasting miles engine for one that can barely last 100.000 miles ?
are you going to resign the 300 Tdi fuel economy ???

I own a Discovery 300Tdi and a Defender 300Tdi "--- w/o electronics ---"; not perfect but the best thing ever.

good luck
Pat

What am I doing

Maybe I come from a different breed but the type of wheeling I do needs power to push locked up dana 60's, 37-39 inch tires on a nearly full size rig, up some of the craziest obstacles around(I grew up in Farmington, NM---my back yard was Choke Cherry Canyon--enough said). I have an Avalanche custom built buggy and while I don't expect my 110 to keep up with it, I wouldn't mind my 110 being able to help recover my buggy when I'm in a bind---that means it must be moderately built. A Vortec 5.3 or 6.0 motor mated to a 4 speed auto tranny with an atlas is more my style. I could go on but let's just agree: " to each his own."

I agree, and am all for him selling the 300tdi...... To me.

I just sold my early bronco that had a supercharged mustang 5.0 / atlas / nv4500 with a 60 in the rear and 44 in front .. a lot of fun.

If you go the chevy route I have a new vortech supercharer in my garage? maybe with cash as a trade?

Is that 300tdi still for sale? I am parting out a GMC Jimmy and I have a THM700-R4 and a 350 if you would consider working something out. Shoot me a PM or an e-mail if interested. tfh03@aol.com

i know - i am throwing myself to the lions - but i am kind of intrigued by the idea of putting a domestic, carbed motor in a rover (a 90 at least).

with all my respect,
I think for you your 300Tdi is not the problem; your Defender is.

After reading your comment I thought is not a Defender what you really need.
My apologies if you were offended or hurt by my comments.

Hey Pat

My feelings were not hurt-----It's just that I explained my whole point above and my goals for my 110. I'm not going to go over it again. And I do want a Defender, just one with a nice, powerful American(oh no) V8.

I think Pirate4x4 crew might be a little more the direction you want to go. Or you could get a hold of the boys over a BCB, they sure know how to butcher an epic British vehicle.

Thanks, Some have considered me a butcher---although I always do a good job with the sutures.
