20/300TDI AC kits, parts from the UK

Hi Everybody,
I posted about the RHD AC yesterday and I have been inundated with requests for AC stuff…and other stuff. Thanks you all for your support!

Here is my thought. About every 8-10 weeks we have a shipment from the UK of 3-5 pallets of stuff. We pay per 1,000 kilo pallet so I have lots of “weight” already paid for with our existing shipments; I can ship additional items for free or very cheap. We already send the other items through customs so we will have little additional work with more stuff on the same shipment.

Let’s talk AC kits….
LHD 200/300TDI: We have new under dash units w/evaporator, new compressors/clutch/belt, new filter dryers, new condensers. Hoses will be either new or used…unsure right now. Brackets will be used.

RHD 200/300TDI: As above but it looks like we will source good used under dash units.
If you just need bits and pieces of the kit let us know; happy to help with smaller items for the AC on this shipment.
We can do the install or give you some directions to do it yourself. It is not that tough to do.

It looks like the prices will be around $1400-$1700 USD. The final price will be worked out in a few days based on our parts prices and interest here.

Let’s talk 200/300TDI kits:
We can provide full or partial kits with used “test” motors or rebuilt motors. If you are interested in drivelines please e mail us for more detailed info. We would like to offer a flat 10% off of all drivelines to the D90 source.

Let’s talk other Stuff:
Let us know what you need. It will be difficult in getting many small parts on this shipment but we can set up a small parts shipment after the first of the year if there is enough demand. We can get/ship all manner of parts. The best deals are on used parts. Right now we have seats, doors, many body parts and….I almost forgot. Michelin XZL in 7.5x 16 J

Since we have a shipping deadline we need to set some parameters on this shipment. Between now and the 16th of November we can get details, firm up prices and answer questions. By the 16th we will need a 30% deposit via check, cash or paypal to get your order ready to ship.

We plan for the shipment to leave the UK about the first week of Dec. at which time we will need an additional 30% deposit. Within 2 weeks or so of the ship date the items will arrive at our shop in Atlanta ready for shipping to you or pick up. We will need the final 40% payment then.

We will be happy to ship the smaller items/AC kits via UPS/Fed Ex at your cost. We will help arrange truck shipping of larger items such as motors also at your cost. We can get trucking quotes as needed prior to any deposits.

This is our first time offering this sort of deal. We are happy to take suggestions as to how it can work best for the members of the forum.

David has worked on my trucks before and does good work. I'm looking forward to getting one of these kits myself.

Hi All,
I had great plans last year to do this and it eventually happened but we were off schedule significantly! We had plans for a few 200/300s and some AC kits. Next thing you know I have piles of 200/300s ordered and they sort of took over my life

Here is the deal.....I import on a very regular basis from the UK. A pallet costs about 375 GBP delivered to Atlanta. If I have a driveline to go on the pallet the AC can ship for free. If not we would need to load at least 5 AC kits onto the pallet to make it worthwhile to ship.

Right now I have no motors on order but that can change.

We kinda sorta have a container scheduled for end of June. I have a 110 and a 90 to ship. What I am running into there is that neither has MOT and both are on other ends of the UK. To get them both in the same place to load a container actually costs more than sending them individually! When a vehicle is shipped not in a container you cannot load it up with goodies! With a container as long as the doors shut you are fine.

What this boils down to is this...if you got lots of money I can have you one quick. A reasonable amount of money with at least 4 others kits shipped on a pallet could ship within 2 weeks.

There is a chance they can ship for free but it will be later in the summer.

Even more.....LHD AC is tough to source in the UK. Rovers North has very nice, expensive LHD kits that we install. Go that route for LHD. RHD is easier to source in the UK but not real easy. Compressors are very easy, hoses not at all easy, evaporator not at all easy, filter dryer easy, under dash unit at times easy.

All you really need is the correct compressor (Some wiggle room in that statement) and the under dash unit. All other parts are just generic AC parts that can be purchased in the US new. Hoses can be custom made.

On the 300 and 200 you need the AC tensioner and the belt. That is very easy o get and I even think rovers north stock them.

We have done this quite a bit. It is not really complicated but you really need to WANT AC.

I will say the units are very cold, look great and perform wonderfully.

PM or e mail me if we wish to discuss this further. I am not trying to make a mint on this. Really just cover my costs and a bit for the time/trouble.

The thing that makes it difficult is the 3 row crank pulley. Other than that you can make it all from stuff you can get here.

Bill is right, the whole thing can be made from existing parts. Vintage air has some generic units that could be used with good success. Price for them is around $1800 ish.

The real issue is if you want to make it look stock. The underhood pieces and parts can be made up but it is easier, quicker and I think overall cheaper to use as much of the OEM stuff that you can. Vintage air sells enough pieces and parts that you can make it all work using off the shelf stuff if you want to go that direction.. The under dash rover unit is just downright sweet. Looks right, fits right works right.

If you have a Disco you would really just need an under dash unit to start with. I have found that I would rather use a 300tdi compressor but you can make th disco unit work.

The mid 90's AC systems on Range Rovers and Discoverys here in the US are exactly the same as Volvo 2,7,9 series stuff, at least as far as I can tell. All the stuff cross references when I go to look it up. I'm sure there are other vehicles that have similar stuff. Getting the actual AC parts is nothing, fitting it is the issue.

Glad you mentioned the Volvo crossover, I had no idea. Fitting is easy! I have the RN guide that I can send that shows how to retrofit all the stock parts to a DeFender LHD. It should be 90% the same for RHD. from that you can get an idea where and how similar parts will fit.

AC is not rocket science!

The RN LHD kit using all new rover parts is very easy to install. Much easier than vintage air or older land cruiser factory AC so retrofitting off th shelf parts will not be too hard to do.
