2.5TD 90k miles

Vid attached - narrating sucks...too bad

I'm in the process of pulling this motor, but figured i'd get this posted ASAP since I dont want it sitting in my garage. This is of course assuming my 200tdi works and I dont have to drop this 2.5td back in lol!

2.5TD w/90k miles on it according to the odometer. I have no reason to beleive this is not accurate.
Engine runs great. No smoke (aside from a little during a cold start but it goes away in seconds). Summer months I give it a second or none of glow plugs and it fires right up. 40-60 degrees i'd give it 5 seconds 0-30 degree a good 20 seconds. Its never failed to start for me. On a cold cold day it will run a little rough for a few seconds but smooths right out after you tap the throttle once. I really have no issues with this motor (makes me question why i'm doing this swap)

The previous owner thought it had a bad case of blow by bc he was getting oil in the airfilter. Well I put a catch can between the breather valve and the air box (why it was routed before the airbox and not after it was beyond me), and in 3k miles I've captured all of 1.5.-2.0 oz of oil and no other issues, airfilter has stayed dry. I dont see this being really abnormal at all, especially for an older turbo diesel motor. All motors have some crank case pressure, thats why they have breather valves in the first place!

For those that were at ROMP and others that know this truck, they can attest it runs fine. Not a lot of power but heck its a good engine for a good price. Comes with all the ancillaries unless i find something that doesn't work on my 200tdi once I drop it in.

I'm swapping b/c I got a great deal on a 200tdi rebuild, and would like a little more power, and have plans to take this on some long trips. not that this motor couldn't do it, but i'd just rather have a tdi for obvious reasons.

Hows a cool $1000 sound? I can help with delivery within a decent distance (say a few hundred miles of NJ?)

I love the Defender bonnet. Always sounds like someone dropped something in a tin bucket when they open lol.

Not sure why but I might be interested in this one. Did you see anything at my shop that would be an interesting part trade?

So the motor is a '88 with the bigger / better bearings and pistons etc?

Anyone headed to coastal Maine with an empty boot/pickup?

Off the top of my head I can't remember much. You happen to have any gutter mount roof racks laying around?

Doug - I do beleive it is the "later" 2.5 TD, Still not the best enginer LR made, but slightly better than the earlier 2.5TD's

A little update on this now that my swap is just about complete

Heres what it comes with:
Engine w/ all front accessories and turbo
Fan shroud, Radiator, Air Box assembly and filter, fuel line from lift pump to filter, and injection pump to return (all fuel lines that are part of the engine itself (from injection pump to injectors etc ARE obviously included)

Heres what it doesn't come with:
Dipstick (needed it for the 200tdi)
Had to steal 2 or 3 studs for the bellhousing that were bent on my 200tdi
Stole 1 copper washer from a fuel line fitting...
Viscous fan

All in all I'd say its pretty complete. Could use a bit of degreasing and power washing but the important stuff is all good

Hope to get this out of the garage ASAP......

Ok update - airfilter housing not included, as I re-used it. But I have a brand new 200tdi filter and a used filter housing I can give instead, I'm sure it can be made to fit without much hassle

Matt, left you a VM the other day, just sent you a PM again

If Matt doesn't want this - its last shot for D-90 guys before it goes on EBAY.

I'll do $750 delivered within 200miles on 07701. Want this out of the garage so I can start building my roof rack (need some room!)

Thanks Dylan,

I'm just making up the gutter mounts now. My goal is to make it as minimal as possible. No basket, flat roof. We'll see how it goes!

Fan Shroud from 2.5 td

Adrian-
Do you still have fan shroud from the motor? If so, would you want to sell it separate from motor? If so, could you send pix? Is this the same as 200 tdi shroud?

Sorry that is sold. It's not the same as a 200tdi fan shroud.
