Very interested in what RD has brewing for the 2.5na. I have been driving mine around town a little more with the warmer weather. Smokey, slow as hell, and shakes violently but I enjoy that it starts right up and puts along with the temp gauge right in the middle even on a warm day.

I am sure I will be more than happy with the Om617 but would be nice to see a second life for these 2.5's.

The 2.25 is not a candidate out of the box, but the 2.5 is because it has lower oil squirters and shares the block casting and crank with the 200TDI. The 200TDI ladder support will bolt to a 2.5 and the 200TDI oil pan will bolt to the ladder. The 300TDI head and IP will bolt onto the 2.5. Add some 200TDI rods and pistons, and 300TDI manifolds... well guess the cat is out of the bag.

None of this has made it into the real world yet, but am taking some more measurements and setting up for some machining this winter to explore further and if feasible build a running example.

X2 my engine was fine but a turbo kit could've brought enough horsepower to keep me from the 300 tdi

Is the ladder support all they added to strengthen the block against the issues the early 2.5TD had?
