2.25l diesel engine

I'm selling my 2.25L diesel five main bearing engine from my 1983 110 to make room for a tdi.

The engine has 158k on it. I had the entire head rebuilt in spring 2011. The injection pump was rebuilt January 2013 and I put a new fuel pump in as well.

Ever since I got the pump back I can't get it running like it used to. Not sure if it is a timing issue or what. It runs smooth but lacks the awesome power it used to have. The exhaust smells rich so it could be a fuel issue with the pump.

I have decided to let this one go and focus on the tdi like I should have long ago.

At any rate, I would like to get what I have in it for the head and pump rebuild which is $1800. Located in western NC. I'm happy to help with shipping, on your dime.

Tongue in cheek. It is no powerhouse of an engine but since my injection pump rebuild I have not been able to get the power back that it used to have.

Just curious.. isn't that kind of steep for a 2.25? I see them going from 5-800$ elsewhere, I am just asking. Realizing you have sunk a bit into it, maybe I'm asking because I would like it..

I just put it out there that I have that much in significant work done to it. In reality, yes I think it's steep. It was a starting point from my side based on the fact that the entire head was rebuilt and so was the injection pump. I doubt that an $800 engine has had the same treatment. Unfortunately for me, it wasn't running smooth when I pulled it so I can never expect to get that money back out of it. Fortunately for you, you can make an offer based on this information

Dave Staffer might be able to help.
He is a good man and will be picking up a galv IIA frame in SE VA this Monday.
PM me and will send you Dave's number or his brother Tom's number.

Moot point, but we could have gotten the engine to you from Uwharrie last weekend with ease.

Jeff, just a curiosity question, since I'm a Series guy, and still learning about the newer trucks, didn't the 90's and 110's from the 80's come with the 2.5 liter engines?

As far as I understand, most do have the 2.5. It appears there was a transition period where they used 2.25 five bearing engines. This came out of an 83 so it was first year with coils and 110 designation. Sorry to say this on a Defender forum, but it is a rare engine. Not as rare as coveted mugs, but still uncommon
