WTB: D90 - solid can need work high miles fine.

I am looking for a bit of a project.

I had thought about buying a body only and building a hybrid on a chassis i now have at the shop.... and still may if someone has a shell for me!

But at this point I don't have all that much time so a running or close to running truck (can need an engine or trans etc) would be ideal.

I am open to either a SW or ST any year (including 83-85 trucks) but I do not want a rust bucket. Need not be perfect, but I don't want to fight *too much* of the brown cancer for the next several years. I would rather have one that has not been patched and plated so i can see what needs to be done and things have not been covered up.

After looking at a few ROW 84-85 trucks with plated frames and outriggers and 3 inch thick waxoil.... I am a little discouraged by things having been "covered up" - I'd like an unmolested truck that maybe just needs some love.

Even super high miles are fine, can be a salvage title for all I care, reasonable dents are fine, faded/peeling paint is fine, engine with coolant issues fine.... I just need a solid truck to start with. Obviously price dependent on quality and issues. I am willing to pay a fair price, not looking for the cheapest truck out there but i don't need a show truck. It seems hard to locate such a beast.

Willing to either pick it up anywhere in the States and drive home (if it will do so) or have it shipped so location is not *that* much of an issue.

I recently have sold both of my other car/truck and as of friday the deal on my truck is final so i will have cash in hand for the right 90.

Thought i had found the perfect truck in NYC - but the seller is not replying to my emails or VM.

Thanks!
Doug

I have just the truck- took it as trade toward another Rover, 175k red '94 s/t from NC. Same owner last 13 or so years, certifed CAT mechanic who rebuilt the motor, T-case and tranny a year ago- was his DD. Runs great, no leaks- getting fresh paint now- faded from the sun, and the doors were replaced by LR under the corrosion warranty, and the paint didn't match. No issues I am aware of, as I have been driving it the last couple weeks- except the driver's seat adjustment is finiky, a little rust in the pass underseat well- driver side fine?? Also has newer seat recover kit, no tears, etc. Had a tan Badger, now sold, but has a decent black RN top. lastly, truck came with complete maintenance file- drive her til you do another diesel swap

Dale - email or PM some more info and a price, I'd love to paint it myself if that helps.

As to the other post asking price..... completely depends on the truck. But I'd like to stay under $400K when it's all done.

Really - I'd like to find a truck for $10K needing fair work. But I have seen some pretty decent overall trucks in the mid teens. I can spend more for the perfect truck. I am not afraid to buy a "project" but i don't want crap.

buy this and throw a Defender front end on, drop a diesel in, and slap on a coat of paint and your off and running!

Thanks for the links guys. I have no desire really for a leaf sprung truck - getting "old" and turning into a pussy i guess!

As for the ROW TDi, thanks Jeff - not a bad deal but even that one had gone through a few patches and repairs.... Those trucks can be hit or miss and I'd really have to see it in person before buying it. Not sure how horny i am for the Rover TDi either to be honest. Not a bad engine for sure but there are better if you're willing to "bastardize it". :D

Oh by the way, still looking though I have had some great offers via PM and email etc. Couple seem like very real options. Thanks all!

I need to run down the coast and check it out again soon and will get some pics.

It's a low miles faded out red '94 D90 with black ST and is stock. You all know what they look like.

It's parked next to a whole bunch of other ones and has been safe and snuggled in next to them for some time.

Carey, I bet you can locate the truck and you may have seen first hand the deposits of iron under it after I poked at it friday. LOL.
