WTB: 95 or 97 D90 ST, White or Black only

Looking for a 95 or 97 D90 Soft Top White or Black only. I'm in Charlotte, NC so while somewhat local would be ideal, I'm willing to fly and drive anywhere in the US.

Willing to pay fair market D90 forum values (not the crazy asking prices on eBay/CL that never sell). Something like this one is a good example of one I should have bought!: http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...ad.php?t=37636

Post or PM me if you have one you'd consider selling - I'm ready to buy now, not going to waste your time.

Thanks,
John

Hopefully you will not have to (but likely will) wait quite a few months for another deal like that to come along. The good news is that soft tops tend to drop in price a little right around the Winter time, so be prepared to pounce. You may also want to post a way for people to contact you in case they see something come up, as you can see that one went quickly - I e-mailed Alex within a few minutes of that one coming up for sale and she was already too late by the time she replied.

------ Follow up post added October 12th, 2012 12:17 PM ------

Follow-up: there are actually a lot of pretty good deals that come along on CL as long as you're not looking at dealer mark-up or people with pie-in-the-sky dream prices. You just have to be prepared to at least start the process of acquiring the truck quickly, as there are plenty out there who will just buy a D90 with cash without even seeing it first. Not saying that's what you want to do, but you'll at least want to talk to the seller and find a seller who is willing to work with you to ensure you're both getting a good truck (pre purchase inspection) and not getting vultured out by someone else who will buy it without seeing it.

1994 Defender 90 #342 Soft Top - VIN# SALDV2285RA935063 - $26,000 (Ship from 55402)

Great running truck with a ton of upgrades. I purchased this truck from British Motor Company about a year and a half ago. It needed quite a lot of sorting but has come along nicely. It has a 4.6L upgrade from the 3.9 making it ultra quick. For those super cold days this D90 has seat heaters and an auxiliary heater which runs off the coolant keeping things very toasty inside. A/C for the summer in this truck as well. Pics show vehicle with wagon doors. The truck will come with soft top doors and slide door tops (pic shown). Also will come with a Fiberglass Hard Top which is servicable but only about a 5 out of 10.

Below is a list of the mods from when I bought it. Since owning her I have invested a great deal in money in parts and in personal, as well as paid labor. Work completed and new parts noted below. All work was performed by Expedition Autoworks: http://www.expeditionautoworks.com/ and I have all receipts. The truck is fast, runs great and is exceptionally reliable and fun to drive.

A list of mods/specs supplied by original p.o.:
Great Basin HD Axles
ARB Air Lockers f/r
Southdown axle skid plate Rear
Double Carbon Drives Shafts f/r
Rovetym Trailing arms, upper rear kingpin mount, front radius arms, hd steering arms, 3 inch springs
Extended brake lines
HD aluminum fuel tank guard
Rover Accessories aux side mount fuel tank 9.5 gal
5 Nato rims
Rear spring isolators
Expedition Exchange rear spring capturing system
Rock Sliders
ARB Front Bumper
HD Air Compressor with Quick-Connect
Mantec Snorkel
A/C
R-380 Trans
Aux Heater
Heated Windscreen
Fiberglass Hard Top
Tickford Soft top - This top was in tatters and had to be thrown out
TLED Interior load bay lights - These were crap and were thrown out
CB Radio
WingTop Protectors
Aux Fuel Tank

New Parts
Rear Mud Flaps
Bonnet Protection
Mud UK Bonnet Hinges
LED Rear Tail Lights
MUD UK Consol/Rocker-Switches
Halogen Headlights
New BFG 265/70/16 x 5
New Stereo with Ipod Connection/ Door Speakers and Rear Speakers
New Rubber Shift/ Parking Brake Boots
Seat Risers
New EFI Computer
Most easily and many difficult to access hardware replaced with stainless
Rear Load Mat
BestTop Soft-Top 8-10 (all windows clear)

Completed Work
Dynamatting of complete seatboxes, footwells, and the sides of the cargo bed
Carpeting on seat boxes to beginning of cargo bed.
Battery box has been sanded, cleaned, painted with anti-rust primer, dynamatted, and fitted to hold a second battery (second battery and cross-over not installed)
New Alpine White Paint: $2500
Seat Re-Trim Exmore Grey Vinyl with Seat Heaters
New Drivers Side Floor (welded in)
New Manifold Gaskets
New Brakes, Rotors, Pads F/R
Propeller Shafts Rebuilt F/R
Pre-Filter with Custom Foam Filter located inside snorkel (Taking out the K&N filter along with about 6' of hose from the engine compartment really opened up the power of this beast and probably add a little to the fuel economy)
Seat Risers
Rear Speaker Boxes with Speakers
New Fuel Pump and Filter Replaced

Full Disclosure
The truck was in a low speed collision with an immovable object and slightly bent the frame on the front drivers side. A good frame straightener aligned everything right and now you'd never know it happened driving it. The only telltale sign is a bit of downward slant in the ARB bumper from right to left. The trucks mileage is estimated at 100-110k but it needs a speedo cable. It has not been accumulating mileage on the odometer since I've owned it 10k miles ago. The drivetrain and motor have been rebuilt during its lifetime. Upgraded from 3.9L to 4.6L, 380 Transmission Installed, Everything Upgraded to Heavy Duty!

The white Denver 90 isn't actually in Denver and has been talked about a good deal on this forum. For some reason the owner only posted the ST version of it on craigslist:

Thanks Josh - changed both my PM to receive notification by email and subscribed to the thread. Agreed that the one I linked was a deal - was just an example but yea would sure love a similar one but can pay more for something better.

I am pretty strict in that I do not want a 94 - only a 95 or 97 and only in white or black so none of the above fit.

I'll join the D90 club soon enough now that I'm ready to pull the trigger and with the great D90 forum help so thanks all

What's wrong with the 1994s that I don't know about?

There is a really, really nice black 95, 4.2 auto with a SD rack and a lot of great gear, close to you, but it is close to $45k.

Are you talking about the RoverAccessories Fast Back? He won't budge from that unrealistic price for some reason, etiher.

Ha, but most of those things have been changed on those trucks by now. Square to round was done on that white one, R380s via dealer, belt rail conversions happen all the time if they haven't been installed already, and MT's are the best.

I think the biggest things are aesthetically if you don't like the square lights, and the LT-77 which shouldn't be that big of a concern to take an entire year out of the equation.

Just grabbing at straws trying to figure out the lack of love for #282's vintage!

No offense to the 94's out there! Just interested in 95 or 97 ST white or black. Ideally from a D90 member of course!

I almost bought option one... From what I see and talked to the owner about, it's a hell of a truck.... Lots of stuff done to it that will save tons of cash. Like I said it would have been off your list had I not have won a bid placed prior to finding out about it...

Still looking!

And yes I see that amazing 95 Black ST posted for sale here - looking for something closer to stock (and just a tad cheaper - although that one is def worth it with the mods).

Change out the rear lights (easy), most LT77s were already swapped under warranty (mine was), I've got belt rails, factory A/C...and if the truck in question has the original tires then you'd want to change that old-ass rubber anyhow!

Come on man- that's sabotage!

Sorry- the sarcasm was full-on... Although I'll admit I have a 380 and new tires
