I spotted a very similar scam in our Buy and Sell or Autotrader a few months back. It was a lovely lady from ritzy West Vancouver selling an 06 Range Rover HSE Sport, low miles, for -wait for it-$16,000 CDN. She is now living in Israel and needs to sell it through the same paypal/ebay motors insurance promise. After I asked where I could view the vehicle I never heard again. I feel for the people stupid enough to fall for this.

Its a scam, but ebay does operate that way. I recently sold a designer purse for over $2k, paypal wouldn't release the money until the person gave me good feedback or 5 days after delivery if I provided a tracking number. Had I understood those were the terms I would have found a different way to sell it.

They are getting the pictures from this legitimate ebay listing:

I wonder if the real #431 is still for sale?

Do you guys think the eBay 220491703667 is a real sale, or another scam? I'd certainly agree with Jim that the photos are the same, but the wording in the ad seems a little off...?

If I were to try and scam someone on a defender I would at least ask a 'real price' and not a sounds too good to be true price.

I need to know why you had a $2000 purse to begin with.

I ran across a 110 last night on cars.com that was going for $25K. I figured I would bite, knowing it was most likely a scam but you never know with today's economy. Everything sounded legit. The "seller" claimed to be a soldier in Iraq and was trying to sell it quickly to secure a home loan. He had plenty of pics and CarFax checked out. 3 things prompted red flags. 1) He said delivery was included in the price 2) He insisted on using an ebay transaction in a manner I have never heard of 3) he quickly declined my desire to use escrow.com. The final nail in the coffin was the "ebay invoice" that was emailed to me came from an internet domain called motorsvpp-transaction.com. I did a WHOIS lookup on that domain and it's registered to an apartment unit in Maryland, not eBay as it should.

Doesn't sound legit at all...this should have been red flag number one. The other big one is "I'm divorced/getting divorced and need to sell quickly."
