The mechanical parts to covert are cheap, it is the labor cost and the LHD interior portions on the bulkhead

Thank you. Where can I source these 2.5 NA frame brackets? Just about to start the conversion and I think those are the only parts I need. Of course, until I start the project and realize I need others....

Also, can I leave the 300 TDi frame mounts in place to make the re-install easier, or will the 2.5 NA get fouled on them? If I can keep them in, will US Customs see these old 300 mounts and consider it a modification?

Lastly, how can I test the 2.5 NA before I put it in? Would like to ensure it runs prior to going through all this work; however, unsure how to do that.

Front Seat Material

Hello.

Does anyone know for sure if vinyl/leather front seats were an option on defenders in 1992?
I'm not sure if I've seen anything but the cloth top with vinyl sided seats as original. I'm looking at a defender that claims to be totally original but it has the vinyl(whatever material) seats. They look exactly like the cloth top seats that are so common, just a different material.

The reason I ask is I've seen posts on the forum about seat material being a potential issue with CBP.

Thanks.

I don't think they give a fig about the seat vinyl. It's often replaced

Caveat - I brought mine in from Germany in '13.

The main concerns for import (from CBP colleagues) "were":
- 2 matching, visible VINs
- body, engine, gearbox "type" match VIN and were age appropriate
- no major modifications to the vehicle making it significantly different from original models in the way it operates

Hope this helps.

Woody

Not sure if this has been posted before, but thought that I would share: Here’s How A Guy Legally Registered A Mercedes A-Class In The US Seems completely illegal and if he gets caught, they can probably take the car.

Article mentions that the guy he purchased it from also had a Defender that was brought in from Mexico. I wonder what happened to that.

I don't think it would be an issue, but there are folks on this forum with a ton more experience importing.

I would like to bring in an unmodified, 'bought direct from the MOD' 1991 LHD Tithonus. My problem is clear to see in the picture below. The full VIN is on the chassis and on the seat box and on the MOD paperwork/invoice but the plate has been snapped at some time on the brake servo. It still reveals the last vehicle serial numbers. What would you do in my position? Is this going to give me a world of pain? Any experienced help gratefully received.

Hi All,

I found a 93 Defender 110 in Europe and I am thinking of importing it. It is all original (engine/body etc.) and without any mods. Even though I live in CA, I am willing to take a chance a register it in Montana. My big question is: Do you guys have any recommendations re reputable importer?

Best,

Michal

Hi - Isn't 93 110 on the "good" list? I.E. - importation of it is permitted even now?

The 1993 would need to "conform to all applicable federal motor vehicle safety standards" and of course "conform to US EPA regulations applicable to 1993 model year new light duty truck" ...or so the decals say on my NAS 110. That is the spec part of NAS, which none of the other ROW trucks would confirm to from the factory in 1993.

Only if it's a NAS version.

I found this resource when researching VIN portability: VIN tampering

Listed on this page are state specific laws and statutes that relate to vehicle identification numbers and titling.

Thought I would share.
