Whats a fair market value for a LHD ex MOD 1986 Diesel 90?

Just wondering what people think is a fair market value for a LHD 1986 90...

I'm thinking of selling mine so I can get a NAS station wagon which would be more useful in CA.

Don't want to overcharge as would like the car to go to a great home.

Interested what people think...have $12k in...is it worth that amount?

Donald

$12 seems like a fair number without taking into consideration the chassis or bulkhead (assuming in decent shape though).

If the truck is solid i would just swap the motor out for what you want, and do the other changes you want, you will likely come out cheaper in the end, and you will get exactly what you want.

Between 5k and 30k

How long is a piece of string?

Post some pics and details and we can give you a real idea of what it might be worth

Totally agree and originally brought it with the intention of swapping out the 2.5 to a 200 or 300 tdi but have been given silly quotes to swap out the engine in CA.

Really? A guy by me told me in conversation around $1.5k to drop a 200tdi in my Series. I didn't think that was bad, but i would rather put the motor in myself.

You have the right transmission for it, you would just have to source the 200tdi, and do a little work and get it in there. Can't imagine its that difficult a swap speaking relatively.

Thats so not a bad idea....I'll start looking for one.

Did you swap out the engine in your series? I've also got a IIA and always wondered about that.

Not yet, maybe in a year, or in 10 years, not in a huge rush, I'm getting pretty good fuel economy as is (16-20mpg), as its all working pretty well, maybe just wait till the motor or trans goes. If i do the swap i won't keep the Series gearbox.

Thanks Dave and from what I've seen the fact it's LHD, totally original, diesel, legal in CA with plates and registration is a massive plus.

But at the same time it's an ex army truck, not very comfortable, painted with a brush and its now 26 years old so stuff breaks without warning.....

We took it to the off road Land Rover school near Big Bur in CA and it performed perfectly and all the new model Land Rover drivers wanted a go....

From what I have seen online people ask silly amounts for RHD ones near $30k but the reality I feel is closer to $12-14k.....do you agree?

As I mentioned I'd like it to go to a good home so $12k I feel is really fair.....I just wanted to double check that I'm correct in my estimate.

Donald

$12-14k for a LHD 90 is definitely more than fair... There aren't many LHDs for sale right now in the states for under $20k, so I don't think you'll have a difficult time selling it.

I'd suggest $18-24,000
especially in CA

There is on on ebay.co.uk that has not sold. Add $4k to that asking price (for shipping etc.) and you have a good starting point.

I think 12-14 is fair for a 2.5. ~18 for a tdi

The tdi swap is easy. I did mine in my driveway. You need a new fan shroud, radiator frame, radiator and intercooler, and maybe some fuel fittings. That's it!

Absolutely no modification necessary.

Knock on wood, so far no issues. Aside from a few things needing tightening, and a few bolts or nuts missing it was good to go. The breather needed a bead of silicone to stop some oil from weeping out but that's about it

I don't think it was a 100% never used fresh rebuild, but its not a high mileage engine either

The only bug I'm trying to sort out is it misses for a few seconds when cold, until it gets a little load on it ( driving 50' usually gets it firing on all 4) But then again it is a Diesel engine.

I am going to replace the timing belt soon just so I know it's good for awhile, I should have done it prior to installing but I was eager to get it in and going.
