Too good to be true?

Hi everyone,

Been looking at this forum for quite a while waiting for the "perfect" landy to come up. I found this one listed on craigslist in NC and I believe at one point it was listed on ebay. My question, is why hasnt it sold yet, am I missing something that would have it not be sold on either sites at $15k?

http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/3526555694.html

Please help! I know you all are the ones to come to for honest advice on things like this without anyone stealing it from under my nose if it is in fact a legit find.

Looking forward to everyones response.

He's a member here http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...ad.php?t=41837

He splits his time between NC and NYC - I tried contacting him once, but never heard back.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the price is that great. It's a 30 year old truck, doesn't have a diesel, is RHD, and doesn't have an NAS cage. If that's what you are looking for, then great, but I just don't think it's a steal.
I'd be concerned about rust.

Rust, rust, and rust.

The rear crossmember obviously needs to be replaced. The frame has rotted out as well near the rear cross so will need to be cut out and patched.

No other pictures of the frame. At best, the rest has small localized rust areas and can be repaired with patches. However, if the frame is completely rusted out (possible) then it will probably need to be replaced with a brand new galv one for a cost of around $2500-3000.

No pictures showing the footwells or other rusted areas of the bulkhead. The bottom exterior of the bulkhead on the left side shows rust. Bulkheads can be patched and repaired, but this is time consuming. In the worst case, it must be completely replaced with another bulkhead.

No photos of the door bottoms which typically rust out and need replacing. Depending on the level of rust, these can be repaired, but typically need to be completely replaced with new doors.

Therefore, depending on the level of rust, the total repair bill you are looking at is anywhere from $1000 to $5000+ just to repair rust damage. This repair cost must be factored into the purchase cost of the vehicle and may explain why this truck fails to find a buyer at $15,000 (which is not exactly cheap for an unrestored B-reg 90).

You can find an imported 90 with a Diesel and solid frame for less than $15k pretty easily

Based upon my 110, this estimate is wildly optimistic (5k). I have that in large parts alone to mitigate the rust bug and that excludes labor and numerous small bits that nickle and dime you to death. Ed's point is dead on, in that you ought to factor in these costs.

Thank you for the replies everyone! I very much appreciate them! I used to own a Defender in South Africa a few years ago and have been dying to have one since. After seeing so many at a significantly higher price point I was optimistic maybe this one was a solid find given the photos that are provided look decent in shape.

Onwards with my search.
Thank you again!
