Restored '94 Blue D90

Hey guys-

I'm selling my restored 1994 Defender. The truck was rebuilt from the ground up in Norman, OK at Sports & Classics Restoration. The guys there specialize in Land Rovers, and Defenders are a treat for them. While I do not know much information about the truck's previous life (before restoration), I did keep an eye on it while it was be brought back to life. Pictures are below. Here are some stats about it:

  • #1811
  • New paint, brakes, BF Goodrich tires, upholstery (front seats), and bed. yes, bed. and more.
  • It has the LAST imported NEW bed for NAS D90s (can be seen in pictures, just after being freshly painted).
  • The frame came from a Canadian Defender. The reason for the new frame was because the back left corner of the original was hit hard enough to bend the frame and destroy the bed... Thus, a new bed and frame.
  • Still has the original motor, which has ~121,000 miles
  • Brush guard, tail light guards, hella fog lamps.
  • Original 94 button top... Which, does show age.
  • Bikini Top I purchased last summer
  • The A/C is having some trouble, and has been for awhile. Alas, it is not that large of a problem. There is a short in the dial, I just haven't had the time to take it out to the shop be fixed, and the weather isn't too bad to be using the A/C. But the good news is that it has a brand new A/C compressor! (~$500)
I love this car, I waited years to find the right one, and months waiting for it to be rebuilt. This is my daily car though, and I drive way to much as it is. I babied this car for the year and a half I have owned it. I live on a college campus and the attention it gets is never ending. If you have any questions, e-mail me at defender90@ou.edu.

Here are some pictures:

Here are a couple of pictures of it before it was restored - sorry for the bad quality, I only had my cell phone camera at the time:

And today

I have more pictures which I will add as soon as I can.

I am asking $23,500. The guys at the shop said it was worth $29,000. I am kind of firm with the price, giving the details this truck entails. Again, e-mail me with any questions at defender90@ou.edu

Hooper,

Was this truck on Ebay several months ago? Does it have a clear title?

Funny story - I saw the wreck of this car on ebay about two years ago, then it vanished. When Charlie (owner of sports and classics) called and told me he had a defender for me, it was the same one. So, yes, it was on ebay... was this the same one? as for the title, it is salvage.

The one I saw a few months ago, had a similiar description. 'Built from the ground up'...I don't remember if it explained why though. I believe it was from your neck of the woods...

What's the story with the title?

Yes that was it! and ebay took it off because of title issues! I didn't really look that much farther into the reasons why, besides, ebay just doesn't seem like the best place to sell a defender.

I bought both of mine from ebay...

You might want to explain if it has a clear title or not.

Looks like a really nice Defender though, good luck with the sale!

not so much a restoration as a repair it seems, I dont know if a salvage title is going to fetch as much as a clean one given your price you could probably find one that hadn't been totaled out.

Is it a new chassis and what did the rebuild entail?

I think the price is pretty ample. I've been told numerous times I could probably get more. But, I think it's a pretty nice deal considering the condition it is in. Besides, Defenders aren't going to be cheap.

No offense but who told you that -- the guys at the shop or the kids on campus? Doubtful anyone here is going to spend that kind of coin on a salvaged truck with 120k miles on the engine -- nor would any lender finance it. Doesn't matter that Defenders aren't cheap, yours is overpriced.

Hey Logan,
I wish you the best in your sale.
Currently there is a 97 Green SW here in So. Cal with 79k miles on her for $28k and it has seriously sat at the dealer for almost a year.
The dealer wouldn't even budge on the price at all, nor would my Credit Union let me finance.

Also, I'd suggest listing in other places...maybe w/o so my savy Defender owners.... because it's gonna be a hard sell here...but put in the autotrader, Craigslist, Recycler, etc. etc.

Might I suggest that you try Capital One auto financing online. I got my Defender financed in 10 seconds that way. NO ONE ELSE would touch it. Not only did they finance it, but at a great rate.

Yours probably doesn't have a salvage title though. Many banks won't finance any car with a salvage title, even if it is only a year or so old.

With an excellent credit score, Capital One would most likely finance it. Capital one cares less about the car than your credit.

Here is a car JUST like mine being sold on eBay.

He's asking more though. The only significant difference is that he has a new top.

Hey guys, I'm willing to bump down the price to $21,000. So, that should be a little better.

they will not finance a salvage title or a "branded" title. I have their paperwork in front of me now. otherwise they seem pretty good, but just a bit of a hassle to get everything straight for the actual transfer.
