There are parts of the country where any time I'm driving through I take the winch cable and loop it around the top of the roll cage to keep them from becoming front seat passengers through the windshield, should you hit one!

I've actually thought about that a lot ever since I saw "the long kiss goodnight." There's an opening scene where they hit a deer that rolls over the hood, who's mass shatters the windscreen, and its legs penetrate the passenger compartment. In its death throes, the animal's hooves eviscerate and cut the jugular of the passenger.
