Thanks to Jeff for the heads-up, but I have shot an email to the good folks at DVLA in the UK, and hopefully they will be able to sort out the missing paperwork necessary to flip that indicator from "no" to "yes".

It's kind of hard to argue with the truck being here, after all .

Do you need 10 spline 3.54 diffs? I've got one from my rear axle swap, and I could probably be convinced to swap the front axle faster, or maybe someone else has another 10 spline diff?

I'd let it go cheap but of course shipping might be a little bit.

While I do appreciate the offer - I really do - it's the labor cost that is killing us in this case, not the parts. The engine swap already ran significantly over-budget due to other unforeseen issues, and this additional one was the straw that pushed us over the edge.

How sure are you that they are 4.7 gears, and remind me where you are located (on my phone sorry). I need to double check the numbers but I might be interested in swapping diffs, and if you are close enough I can do the labor. Labor shouldn't be the determing factor for this - it's not even a skilled job!

Charles it is currently at my shop, we could do it on a weekend if you want to do that. I will get it up on the lift and double check the gearing ratio.

Cool. I'll double check the numbers, but maybe I could come down when Kent drops off the 110. The replacements would be 3.54 thirds from a 1993 RRC LWB.

Well, it looks like DVLA will only talk to me if I am the person who actually exported the vehicle from the UK (and I'm not), so maybe that won't work out. I'll keep poking at them, though.

Thanks for looking into that, Charles - the truck's about half an hour north of Raleigh. And please let me know when you've confirmed the ratios Brian.

So the international status of this vehicle is unclear?

Honestly, I've no idea. It was presented as being lawfully exported and lawfully imported, it was registered in VT, and it's registered here in NC, so... I sincerely wish I knew.

Apart from me concluding that my life would be better without this thing in it, you mean?

It's apparently legally here. As to whether or legally left the UK, that's a question for the guy who sold it to me, and he informed me, in no uncertain terms, that I was to never contact him again.

This doesn't sound shady AT ALL

Seriously dude, wether or not it is here legitimately is a question not only for you, but for anyone who is considering purchasing the vehicle. Saying "apparently it is" don't cut it.

Maybe you should give DHS a call, I'm sure they could let you know if its OK.

It's the best I have at the moment, until the Brits get back to me with a path forward.

Until then, feel free to let Derek Chace at GMR4x4 know of his shady business practices.

Rover drove fine on the shippers trailer. They even moved it on and off a couple times after they took deliver. Engine was strong and driven by other clients and rovers north guys and never had a problem. We tried to work with him on replacement transmission and he refused. I cant do much more then that. More then just his side of the story.

------ Follow up post added September 11th, 2014 12:15 AM ------

Lets keep this on topic. It a one of a kind rover now. A great looking 90 with a nice V8 automatic on a good chassis and bulkhead. That should be worth a fair amount to someone. If any one has any questions on anything i can answer please feel free to contact me

Ryan, I'm not overly familiar with importation documents... that document just shows that GMR imported it, right?

Jeff, let's not forget that the radio in the truck arrived without a faceplate, the first title I received had the wrong VIN on it (a correct one was eventually provided after repeated requests), it was not disclosed that the rear crossmember was replaced at some point in the past, the original exhaust had almost completely rusted away, the "replacement" transmission GMR offered couldn't reliably select 3rd gear (per the transmission's owner), and a whole host of other problems... Including the fact that, apparently, the vehicle was not properly exported from the UK, which appears to be the current hang-up.

Thankfully, DVLA has provided a solution for that:

Quote:
In order to inform DVLA that the vehicle is permanently exported without the V5C, you will need to write or fax in, as a signature is required. Please write/fax to:

DVLA
Swansea
SA991BD

In your letter, please confirm the British registration number, the make and model, your name and address, and a short explanation of the circumstances. Please also sign and date the letter.

The record will update within 4 weeks.
I'll get to work on that letter, and hopefully the matter will be settled in a month or so.
