I just emailed this guy this morning. I have no experience with Land Rover's but have always wanted one. I want it for going to the beach nearby with my 4 young kids. No interest in offroading or any distance traveling with the vehicle. Just an around town sporty vehicle (carrying mountain bikes, paddle boards, kids, dogs etc)

I could use some advice on what to look for. Fair price thoughts? Right hand driver issues? Diesel issues? How about legality of kids riding in back? Getting it registered?

Obvious newbie here but I am using the search function (which is how I found this post).

Thanks

Ken

I'm not sure I would put kids in the back of anything, that said I spent most of my adolescence in a truck bed. 2.5 NA is really only substantial for under 50mph. Beach buggie fur sure

If we take the seller at his word then the price seems reasonable. It is usually a good idea to have a mechanic you trust take a look at it. A mechanic that has knowledge and experience with diesels here would be key obviously. The questions re safety is a tough one to answer. I guess it depends, right? I've owned a very similar 110 and I was not real comfortable driving at any speed with people in the back. The sides are ultra low and the seats are not design with security in mind, IMO.

These are fun to own and can be as equally challenging as well sometimes. If that kind of thing typically doesn't bother you too much you should be happy. Go with your gut.

I think I would feel safe. The kids are old enough to not accidentally fall out but I would like it to be legal otherwise I would just keep using my pickup truck and hope to not get pulled over.

I am scouring the forum now for a Mass or RI based Land Rover specialist that might be able to look at the truck with me.

Thanks for the replies so far. I appreciate it.

As for the go with your gut comment oddly my gut is telling me to stop trusting my gut :-)

One of my biggest pet peeves in any Land Rover description is the use of the word "solid".
As if this gives any indication of chassis and bulkhead condition. A new rear crossmember installed by an amateur or poorly skilled welder means its solid? Or a patch welded in over rot? Unfortunately many sellers tend to be very vague when describing a chassis. My first question before even looking would be to ask if the chassis has ever been welded.

If it's just for the beach then I guess condition doesn't really matter.
