300tdi design was sold to International Brazil who continued to produce it for LR. Additionally they developed the 2.8 liter version called power stroke.
The engine did make it into the Brazilian made Ford Ranger.
However Ford does not own the engine or International. It was sold when the td5 was introduced.
A friend of mine runs a land rover / range rover specialty repair shop. Based on his experience, they are capable of stopping anywhere, anytime, at any cost.
I don't know about the brakes, only their unreliability.
