I'm not tying to derail this seller, but I think buyers should be aware of vehicles "freshly imported" without titles. This means you will be the one to manage the gauntlet of the titling process, and if import paperwork is incorrect, you risk seizure and crushing of vehicle. It has happened many times lately. First thing you should do is a VIN check using Will H's document. Most common problems I have found are incorrect years and engines.

I believe that's old PR footage. Doug will know better than I. I've not had any dealings with those guys in ages.

That looks like a Disco 200tdi under the hood. Definitely not the original engine for that year vehicle. Should have a 2.5 in there.

A thread that eye opening and monumentally informative might be putting too much faith and pressure on a newbie.

Sure sucks to be the new kid ;-)

You seem to be horribly misinformed. The vehicle is not allowed to clear/leave the secure confines of the port area if several government agencies do not agree to grant it entry. Once it is granted entry and allowed to leave the port the owner is given the entry documents to take to the dmv in his state of residence. Some states dmv's will require the original importer to require the original importer who's name is on the docs. Many states will allow the transfer of ownership without the original owner titling the vehicle. It is a state by state issue. There is zero risk of a vehicle being crushed because it has cleared customs and simply not yet been titled. I'd love to see some concrete evidence of your assertions because they are simply not accurate.

The video link you posted from three years ago is us customs crushing a vehicle they asserted had been VIN tampered- completely different issue and it was done @ the port of entry ie confiscated on arrival.

So if it makes it thru importing, how do we handle VIN discrepancies when titling. Do I just pick a year to call it? And just pick an engine to say it has?

Wow, you guys are real know it all dicks on here! How is this for some more "recent" news? Are the seizures ok with you? Just not the crushing?
Why Are The Feds Obsessed With Seizing These People's Old Trucks?
And even litigated by this forum's Will H.

Tom, Get some thicker skin. We have discussed several trucks lately that have different engines than when manufactured that appear to have been recently imported. If you feel uncomfortable about it then simple stay away from the truck and move on. I can send you several examples of trucks with 200 and 300 tdi that aren't original but as Doug has pointed out if they made it through customs and have a title a buyer should be safe from crushing but nothing 100% in life.
Good luck in your search.

Logan, Sorry to have messed with your for sale posting but some of the questions posted are valid and if you want to sell here you should be able to provide answers to questions like if the title work has been completed and additional detailed pictures of the normal rust locations as an example.
Good luck with your sale.

Hay Tom, the guy you just called a "know it all dick" imports Rovers for a living. It's what he does to pay the mortgage and put food on the table. And no, that Jalopnik article is not recent - sorry. How many Rovers have you imported? Uncle Doug has probably over a thousand or so imported trucks under his belt by now.

So if you find a ROW truck that you just have to have and want to import it worry free then by all means give Uncle Doug a call (he did the importing on my truck during the height of the government seizures and it was a worry free process) he absolutely the best at what he does.
