Hmmmm....$30350 hit after 1374 miles. That's $22.08 per mile. Yikes. Sure hope they were fun. Seems like the buyer is getting a pretty good deal comparatively.

icon doesnt have the volume to get pounded with new car regulations and the FJ40 ceased production in 84.
banditieres with mercedes drivetrains were manufactured with toyota licensing in brazil until 2008 or something.

one thing that ive been waiting for, is ECR making "new" defenders now that the Defender as we know it is out of production after ..... 60 years... essentially becoming a small vehicle manufacturer like icon.

but thats a whole different set of rules i dont understand yet.... like....

is there a limit to the intellectual property right that is the "image" of the defender? Toyota sues at the drop of hat, and if they had any rights to the fj40 "look" im sure icon would have a dragon on its ass.

i know ford allows production of 67 mustang bodies for kit cars, and they are doing the same for bronco's..

i just dont know how that end of it works.

Icon is approved by Toyota. The owner worked with them on the new fj. If they didn't like Jonathan ward they would have crushed him. Believe me toyota still owns the rights to the fj

hes done mockups with Toyota, i know.

but i think the tooling they have for the bodies was the original brazilian stuff.

one of the reasons he didnt use Toyota engines when they started the ICON, was Toyota wouldnt sell them to him. I'm not sure why. they are strict with JIT manufacturing and 10 motors for him would be a PITA, but they work with lotus, and thats not exactly huge volume.

theres a story here somewhere.
