Yes, its real. I called the number because I am bored. Its a clean and clear 98 Missouri title. Apparently the owners manual is in German, so the current owner believes it went to Germany for like 7500 miles, then it was imported to the US. From Germany it went to California, tagged, titled, and passed the emissions. The guy that owns it said apparently if you have enough money you could bring it in under some technicality. He has only put like 1500miles on it.

I have no clue on import rules, and whether the VIN's match, etc. However, to answer the question.... Yes, it does appear to be real.

He will email a carfax for free if anyone is serious.

"Gates 959"

The "Gates 959" is an infamous car[7], one of the Porsche 959s built in the mid-eighties, that was imported by Bill Gates to the US in 1987. Paul Allen imported another one, as did Porsche collector Jerry Seinfeld. These cars had not been approved by regulators and had no United States Department of Transportation‎ and United States Environmental Protection Agency‎ approval. The "Gates 959" was stored for 13 years by the US Customs at the Port of Seattle, until regulations were changed to allow "Autos of Interest" to be imported with severe limitations on their use[7]. Gates and Allen both helped pass the "Show and Display" law[7][8].

Unfortunately no Landies appear on the approved list ...

I would suggest that this slipped in and the fact that it has papers now is no guarantee that you'll be able to keep it ...

Nice car though!

I've seen one or two of those in the US back in '99 so I'm sure this is probably real.
