It's supply and demand. If you want that truck here in the USA, find one at the best price. $85K seems like a great price legalities aside. I wish they were cheaper, no doubt. But that's what it is........
Of course it's supply and demand, I understand that. And I get the sketchiness factor too -- no one wants to buy a hot Defender and walk into a DMV with a red face and their fingers crossed.

In a few short years we're going to be able to import "real" Defenders -- it'll be interesting to see what that will do the market.

the new defenders will be 'real' in name only, what they 'are' is LR4's with a stretch chassis and a body kit! Even my local main dealer here agrees with me on that statement.

This is a good thread on how not to sell your ROW, "rebuilt" Defender on D-90.

I mean we'll soon be able to import ROW 1990s 90s and 110s. You can keep your 2012+ Defenders over there, we don't want them.

Coincidence?

Sounds familiar . . .

http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Bri...d/143126606044

For those that dont have facebook I saw this posted today:

"Those of you who were thinking how cool it would be to bring in a newer Defender, beware. There is a government task force joining forces with state DMV and Federal DOT out looking specifically for 'black market' Defenders. They know what they're looking for, and they are wise to VIN number swaps. A 2010 D110 was just seized for destruction here in LA. The owner is out $85k."

Is the defender that was for sale in this thread, the same defender that was busted in the BP comments on FB?

Seems like there's a long list of things other than hunting down a few high value Defenders that our government could better waste it's time ( and our money) with.
How do you join that task force anyway

Well, now that we got OBL, we have some spare resources to deploy. Not sure this is Seal Team Six material, though.

Maybe not, but lets hope it doesn't get a burial at sea.

What's next.......people with diesel swaps??

Are they really going after individuals or the people importing, ie the drug dealers or the drug users?????

This is really a sign of the times.

Pretty pathetic!

As I understand it they are going after any vehicle which isn't rebuilt to original manufacture specifications. It was explained to me if more than 80% of the parts were new then it would be classed as a new vehicle even if the chassis was still the original.
