FS: 1997 Defender 90 NAS #2297 Ė V8, A/C, & Auto (Los Angeles)

Hey Everyone,

Iíve been lurking on this forum for a while now soaking up knowledge and insight before and during my D90 ownership. I just recently created an account and wanted to give everyone here the opportunity to take home and cherish my amazing D90 before I list it for sale elsewhere. Iíd love for it to go to a great home with someone who is going to continue having many years of enjoyment driving an iconic Defender around.

My D90 is in really great condition all the way around considering its 20 years old and constantly turnís heads driving throughout LA. The interior is in really great shape and has been well cared for. All of the seats / headliner are free from stains, tears, rips, and discoloration. The exterior is in great shape and all body panels are straight and free from damage except for a small area on the driverís side. The driverís side bumper edge, front panel, side fender, and sill panel are bent. This happened before I purchased the D90 and I thought about fixing it, but figured someone may have plans for their ideal D90 that include replacing those parts anyway.

This D90 has been in Southern California itís entire life, is rust free, and all maintenance / service work is well documented by the Hornburg Land Rover dealerships in Santa Monica and West Hollywood. Last service done was at 117K miles (Engine Timing and Front Cover gasket replaced by dealer). I can also provide the purchaser with a copy of the Carfax and AutoCheck report upon request to back up the incredible condition of this D90.

D90 Highlights:

1997 Defender 90 NAS # 2297 with 119K original miles
-Coniston Green exterior and Grey Slate interior
-4.0L V8 Engine
-Automatic Transmission
-Air Conditioning (that blows ice cold) & Heat
-Hard Top
-Tubular Safari Cage
-LR Stock Fog Lights installed
-4 Individual Rear Jump Seats
-Stock Defender All Weather Mats
-Solihull 50th Anniversary Badge
-All serial / VIN numbers match and are consistent with existing Land Rover documentation
-Federal and VIN stickers are intact
-Runs excellent; Engine starts right up and transmission shifts smoothly
-Transfer case and locking differential work great
-Southern California D90 that is rust free including all common trouble areas
-Zero accident history, frame damage, hail, or flood damage
-Recently passed California SMOG inspection and is registered through 01/2018
-Clean and Clear California title in hand
-Meticulously maintained by the dealer; service records available
-Interior including all 6 seats are in excellent condition with no stains, tears, or rips.
-32Ē BFG All Terrain Tires in great condition, plenty of tread left
-All stock and ready for you to personalize it and make it your own

D90 Issues:

-Previous owner sealed sunroof shut. Lookís like epoxy can be peeled away but it hasnít bothered me so I havenít tried.
-Driver side bumper edge, front panel, fender, and sill are bent
-Digital Odometer display has started to show signs of common ribbon cable issue. The odometer display still works, it will just come on and off randomly. This is an easy fix; speedometer shop in Hollywood specializes in replacing ribbon cable.
-Center console lid is cracked and one a/c vent piece is missing - purely cosmetic
-Front diff has a sloooow leak, only two dropís in my driveway over past 2 months.
-Radio doesnít work, powers on but may need a code. Planned on replacing with aftermarket but havenít gotten around to it.

For any vehicle that is 20 years old, there are going to be some issues and I have done my best to highlight them all for you. With that being said, I am selling this as-is and would be more than happy to show it in person if you're in LA. If there is anything you would like more detailed pictures of or have questions about, please let me know. VIN number available upon request

Asking $67K, all reasonable offers will be considered.

Cheers!

-Chris

Are you the original owner? I bet it would be helpful if you posted pics of the CarFax.

Clean looking truck. Sounds like your issues are all small ones.

Suggest you post close up pictures of the bent fender and bumper on the driver's side to understand if it will require replacement or not.

Also, if you could indicate how long you've owned the vehicle it would provide some insight into how familiar you are with it.

You're asking price is a pretty penny even if that is the current market, so it would be sold easier if you post lots of detailed pictures and perhaps share the CarFax.

GLWS!

Also pictures of typical problem areas; door bottoms, floor boards etc. Like Joe said pictures of the fender and drivers side are needed. It seems like you've posted detailed pictures of every other exterior angle but anyone interested is going to need detailed pics of that area

That's kind of a nasty looking dent.

IMO, for that kind of money, you're going to need a new bumper, wing, and sill.
Can't tell if the door has a wrinkle, or just a reflection...

yeah whatever he hit took out that tire, that a serious lick to cause that much damage and take out a BFG. It would be interesting to know what else was damaged. ]

But once all the damage, broken stuff and leaks are fixed it'll be an $80K truck.

I'm not the original owner. I'm the 4th owner and purchased it ~6 months ago from a client of mine who owned it for the past 12 years. Just recently titled the vehicle to mentally prepare myself and accept that fact that I need to sell it. Great point, I will post pictures of the CarFax report tonight.

You're right, they're relatively small issues and one's I had planned on fixing myself. I need to shift my priorities and unfortunately the D90 is no longer one of them. I will also take you up on your advice and post more detailed pictures and the CarFax tonight. Thanks Joe!

I took some detailed pictures of the bumper / fender area tonight, however it was quickly getting dark on me so detailed interior pictures of common problem areas will happen tomorrow.

The dent looks worse in the pictures then in person. I was going to replace those parts but figured someone out there may want to do a full restoration, different bumper setup, or modify it. Anyone in SoCal area that's interested is more than welcome to view it in person.

I'm not sure what the previous owner hit, there is no paint transfer anywhere and the bumper is hardly scratched. Suspension components and underside all look good, nice and tight. I had it up on a rack recently and inspected, no other damage noted outside of those body panels. Maybe it crushed a VW Beetle? I'm posting some additional pictures tonight.

I'd rather sell this to someone on the forums who will give it a great home. All reasonable offers will be considered.

Posting additional pictures of the drivers side bumper, fender, door sill, suspension components, frame rail, and surrounding area. It was getting dark so I will take some more pictures of the known problems areas tomorrow.

For reference: VIN # SALDV3244VA122083

Thanks for the insight everyone!

Yeah, tough hit. Once that front wing is replaced the rest of the truck will need to be cut in. Not impossible but it does take someone that knows what they are doing to do it right.

Thanks, I'm hoping someone has the body shop connections and can give my D90 a great home!

This beautiful Southern California owned D90 is still available for sale.

I will entertain all reasonable offers from the community and with it being the Holidays, I'm feeling a bit more charitable. Make me an offer, the worst I will say is no.

Cheers and Happy Holidays everyone!

I'd buy it if it weren't for the damage. Would pair well with my 97 NAS ST. Is the rig dirty or did some kind of liquid stain the driver side rear quarter panel? Looks like something ran/dripped down the side. Same appears on rear of the rig. And 3 different versions of BFG's?
