FS: 1997 Arles Blue D90 #2271 - $44000

103k on chassis, 80k on replacement stock engine
Needs some TLC and cleaning
For a Defender, it's virtually rust free
Minor accident reported on carfax

Located in Chattanooga TN
Asking $44,000 OBO

Following back up on an earlier thread. My neighbor down the street is selling his Defender. I've spent a little time with it. Here's my non-professional PPI assessment. Current owner bought it 6 years ago, shows 5 previous owners on carfax and a minor accident. Truck has been sitting for over a year, it was bought for his daughter, she drove it up until it sat. It starts up and drives and shifts fine. Has about 103k on the chassis, and about 80k on the engine. Replacement 4.0 engine was put in as the original one overheated beyond repair. He has the paper work on the replacement work. Ticking from the engine when running. CEL is on, getting that checked out. Brake light intermittently on, fluid leaking a bit around calipers. Steering has some slack in it. Gas gauge jumps around but not as bad as some I've seen. A/C might work, it wasn't hot at least, and fan motor blows. Missing the panel cover under the driver seat. All else seems to be intact mostly. No rust except small little bubbles in a couple of normal places, nothing major. Rear door has some rust at bottom that would need attention (see in photos). Bulkhead, crossmember, doors, floor pans all look good. Exhaust is rusted, at least muffler-to-tailpipe replacement is needed. Front brakes leaking fluid on tires. Tranny engages fine, rebuilt transfer case at some point. Windows free of cracks. All electrics seemed to work. Middle console works but latch is a bit broken. Missing trim piece around driver door lock. Tires are fine, maybe 70% left but again, has been sitting outside so a little dry rot showing. Needs to be cleaned as you can tell. But no smells and no obvious leaks. Window seals looked ok. Was in a right front accident, at hard lock the tire rubs that way but I think it's the oversized tires. Not sure what/if any structural damage is present but I didn't take it out on the highway. Paint is not great, not embarrassing maybe after a good compound, but she's definitely in need of a fresh coat if you want a mall cruiser. I think it needs about $5-7k of refurb and mechanics to feel super good about it. This was a limited drive and inspection, not a professional PPI.

Here's a few pics, too many to post here in this format. If you are a serious buyer, please PM me with your email address and I'll send over all I have. I'm happy to give his contact info out if someone gets really serious about it. Otherwise, I can arrange for all of the payment transactions, questions, title transfer, etc and shipping.

This looks like a prime candidate for Adventure Motorcars in AL. Future 78k truck on their site. GLWS

Stephen I thought you were looking for a D90? Buy it, it's right down the street! They always look so good with the rack. Best of luck to the seller.

Updated photo album is here now: ArlesBlue_97D90SW by Stephen Jones | Photobucket

Correction on the rust...there is some rust on the lower bottom of the rear door, seen in the pics. Floor pans, bulkead, cross member all look good, I tried to get pics of everything, let me know if you want to see something closer.

mods, any way we can edit my first post to have this link in it?

Update to some questions being asked, accident was minor and all repair was done (carfax shows this). Taking it to the shop Wednesday to get CEL checked out, and fluids done. I encourage anyone close to come check it out, really is a nice rig.

update: CEL turned out to be some emission codes and misfires (p0300, P1314, P1316). Doesn't feel like its hesitating to me though, so maybe bad gas, plugs, wires, etc. Cleared the codes, I drove it around, not back on yet. Gas is old so that might be causing the emissions code, I'm going to drain the tank and start with new gas.
