Back to the topic: go to a local/community bank. If you have good credit and sufficient income, they will loan you money for anything. 10% down and you are good to go

Maserati models do drop like crazy. Bentleys have to be up there as well.
I'll take a GranTurismo from Santa though!

Don't forget BMW 7-series.

I echo the statement about taking the cheap money at 2% if available... and keep your capital in your capital investments.

A Defender does not depreciate like a new car off the showroom floor so you may be in a better position in 2-3 years than you think (so long as the truck is well kept).

Well that's a lot if advice

Thank you all for your two cents or three dollars in some cases.

The D90 I am looking at is off Craigslist. It's in Venice Florida and the asking is 11k
it's a single cab, 1985 300 TDI paint yellow.

it appears to be in decent shape with little rust.

before I go and get all excitedly taking it to a mechanic I just wanted to know the general thoughts on fiance.

I would rather own it and use it and make whatever repairs are needed and always eventual with these vehicles.

does anyone know anything more specific bout the one I am speaking of?

dave

Cool truck.
Looks like it has Range Rover seats.
And he's getting 35+mpg. Wow.

Seriously, pay cash for this truck or hold out...

Nice price if that's the truck and the 300Tdi is a bonus if all is running well.

Engine conversion ...

Dave,

I don't know that particular vehicle, however, an 1985 with a 300 TDI will have undergone an engine conversion at some point. In 1985 the D90's had three engine options: 2.5 petrol or diesel and the 3.5 V-8.

I didn't think it was a bad deal, yes that is the vehicle. I am fairly certain that it was brought in as a TDI and may have had some convert done. The price is probably low due to it being a pickup.

The price does not seem terrible, the seats and the colour are horrible though.

I will check out a few of the banks that were mentioned amongst the bashing of Dave on this post, but seriously I would rather pay it off over time and use whatever cash I had extra to make repairs and have it in good upkeep.

I am fairly certain that with the right treatment and a different kit on her that just rolling round town, I would have people making offers. Come three years or so when the loan is up, I could sell and upgrade.

At least that is my plan, unless you all unleash the hounds of hell and bash me into submission!

Now anyone know of a local master mech who can take a look at her for me? Near to Tampa Florida?
