The problem he found is that if this really is legal(127) it would have the additional portion of the chassis welded in, where he found it rusted the most which causes structural issues.

My point was that (almost)nobody would pay $50k if this thing was resprayed with new wheels and tires. It's still a RHD V8 with a super rough body and not much info on chassis/bulkhead etc.
That body is not super rough. It has some dents on the doors. The rest looks fairly straight. It has both the finisher panels on the tub on the left side of the vehicle at least. I'm sure a sharp paint job, boosts with BFG ATs, and new seats on the interior would get this thing top dollar... even with a 3.9 V8.

I can go check it out if anyone out of state is interested. I don't like to B.S. or waste peoples time as I'm not interested or in the market for a defender but can go on someone else's behalf and get some detailed pics and get under it and see what the deal is. I myself would like to get something bigger like a 110 and thought about a 130 but thats a lot of truck for a daily driver in the city. I can park my little 200tdi equipped series 2 anywhere.....lol

Maybe super rough was an exaggeration, but if this side looks like that what does the other side look like? Doors are expensive, "needs new inside" will be expensive, etc.

It is still RHD.

Engine love / replacement is not the end of the world... if that frame is solid/decent and the bulkhead is the same... $20k seems more than fair.

"Very rare defender 130, basically the male version of the 90,
The body is in good condition, engine is running well, it is a 3, 9l gas engine with a gpl tank conversion, so you ll get a very good mpg.stick shift, steering wheel on the right side, clean title.
All that baby need is a paint job,new inside, new wheels and tires to look fancy and you can resale it above 50k, so dear low ballers do not waste my time,
We all know that u can t afford this baby... "

I saw it today and it needs a lot of work. the doors are solid, bulkhead is solid. Frame has some rot in the rear and would need the long extension rear crossmember to rid it of most of the problem the rest is solid. Looks to have a R380 with a 3.9 V8. I would probably replace the front fenders because they are kinda beat up like they where hit with a sand blaster. The Hicap bed is beat to hell on the inside, even the wheel well humps are flattened. Oh and its never been registered in the states. I took some pics if someone wants me to share via email.

Plate goes to a vehicle registered in England between 1 August 1984 – 31 July 1985 in Leeds.

That the 130 has a wheelbase of 127 which matches the number is either coincidence or a sign that the owner was perhaps a knowledgeable person. Dealers would give you a choice of available number plates that were assigned to them.

Did you capture the Vin?

Right hand drive, no US plate on the front. I searched that plate and found this:

Mr James Larson
Chester, Connecticut, United States 7 shipments total Has verified third-party data
1 shipment matches vin uua/
X 1984 Land Rover 127 Reg B127 Uua Vin Salldhac7 Aa224577 Colour Green

Maybe someone can try to look up that partial VIN?

CalVIN, the Land Rover VIN CALculator

Salldhac7Aa224577

SAL Manufacturer code: Land Rover
LD Model: Defender (for early models: Ninety, or One Ten)
H Wheel base: 110 inch
A Body type: 2-door: Pickup, hood cab, truck cab, or soft/hard top
C Engine type: 2.5 litre diesel (model 12J)
7 Steering and transmission: Right-hand drive (RHD), 5-speed manual (LT85, LT77, LT77S, R380 or other)
A Model year: 1983, 1984
A Assembly location: Solihull, UK
224577 Serial number

------ Follow up post added December 29th, 2013 09:33 AM ------

It's also worth noting that the early 127/130s were custom built (stretched) at the factory using 110 frames, so it will have a 110 VIN (as it does above). Looks like everything pretty much matches what you'd expect, and the 3.9 I'm *guessing* was put in here once it arrived.

Jason beat me to it. The decode of 110 is common as LR used 110 vins on 127's up to 1990.

truck has early style side markers, and early ribbed double cab roof. A 2.5 natural in a 130 would be horrible so a v8 transplant to improve usability makes sense. No reason to think its not what its represented to be. The push button doors are not correct for a B reg truck.

Push buttons started in '88 if I recall, correct? Though that aside it's an easy/common swap that likely was just done at some point along the way.
