I was under the impression it wasn't possible to sell it, after import, until it was titled.

Im also pretty sure the person on the import paperwork has to be the one to title the any vehicle that comes in. Doug would know best but im pretty sure thats the case.

No, that is not true. There must be a connection (Bill of sale) between the owner of the foreign title and the one applying for US title. On the import documents the VIN is important not the name of the importer.

Who is the importer of record? In my experience there are at least some states that will require Import docs be in the name of the title applicant. Clay

Well there's a business idea whose time has come. Possibly for someone with a lot of land, a big barn, maybe close to a big international port...

I wouldn't buy a truck without a valid US state title but that is just me.

Agreed and the title must be in the name of the seller.

Hi guys, this is not a problem. Important is the transfer of ownership, which means to have a bill of sale between the person on the Customs clearance documents and the new owner.
We have sold and titled more than 10 vehicles in this way.

Thanks,
Daniel

no the person on the customs clearance has to title the vehicle. A lot of states wont except it any other way. No supply a tittle is just wrong. Why not just pay the $500 and title it to avoide any problems?

It's not at all 500. It's a 10 dollar title fee and it is plain dumb to buy a truck without the importer titling it first. Buyer beware.

when i bought my truck, i had a v5 , import docs, and a bill of sale. it was incumbent on me to provide a title. this is not uncommon, as far as i know.

the reason the cali guys want a title is so that they can register the diesel in ca.

Is this a question of state sales tax? Aren't dealers exempt?

I don't think so.

This is the reason why people in Cali want a valid title prior to buying:
