D110 in RVA

Hi guys...

I'm trying to help a friend sell his D110. It's a gray market truck that came in from Canada. The VIN is from a '91 Country. I don't know a whole lot about the history but I'll do my best to answer any questions.

Forgive me as I am no Rover expert... We are just trying to see what you guys might think it's worth. He paid a lot not knowing it was gray market and is willing to take a reasonable loss.

Not trying to get into a discussion about how he got hosed on the price. Just hoping we could get some advice as to the value and preferably a buyer!! Vehicle is located in Richmond, Virginia.

**He's hoping to get in the $35k range

-Body has 19k miles on it.

-Engine has 27K miles on it.

Thanks for your help!!

I have more pics if needed.

Looks to have VA plates, but may be off of another truck. Looks great. If I have the funds I would want one for my daily driver.

Is the truck in Richmond? If so take it to LR Richmond and show the guys in the shop. Best way to get it noticed for local buyers. How is it registered? If it not registered as a Defender it will not bring as much as one that is.

would anyone on here be worried about a VIN # that doesn't match the vehicle in the event of a wreck? Not to hijack this thread but I found an Ex MoD 110 that's awesome and I wanna flip my 300Tdi and LT77 into it out of my 90 and then part out my 90. Only thing is it has no title but there is a VIN on the frame. Lemme know if I'm committing a party foul here and I'll start a thread.

Yeah, start a new thread. Plenty of better places than here.

No I'm sure no one would care that there was no evidence your insurance didn't match the vehicle. Insurance companies are really generous when it comes to paying out and wouldn't care about a small detail like this.

I think the largest impact on value for the OP will be the re-VIN....that is a big no no on a few levels, legal, dmv, dot, insurance.....suprised the OP would even buy it given the re-VIN.

It's been at the dealership. I don't think the sellers price is too far out of line. Whoever did the petrol conversion seaming did a nice install of the motor, it looks close to factory from what I remember.

Thanks for the responses!

It's got a free and clear VA title. It's registered as a '91 but I believe the guys at LR Richmond said they thought it was actually a '97 or '98 model that was brought in from Canada.

Titled, but imported legally?

Sorry to put this here and please prove me wrong, but a legal 91/97/98 110 would be 2-3x the cost, ie, federalized. Probably doesn't help that the dealer says they think it's a 97 or 98, unless they or others have documentation that it was imported legally as such or is on a temporary permit from customs and bonded.

And: Why is it that questionable rigs are represented by a "friend" helping a "friend"? Triple9's thread on the 88/109 is an example.

I know we aren't supposed to crap on for sale threads, but caveat emptor.

Are you implying that I'm not, in fact, helping a friend? If so, please keep your comments to yourself. I'm not here to falsify information in any shape or form. The dude who bought this doesn't have the time to spend trying to sell it. I've sold several vehicles for his brother as well. They're rich and go through toys...

For interested buyers I will happily provide the history of the truck as we understand it.

Just to add, FYI, any Vin altering in VA is a felony. But either way, cool truck

The VIN wasn't altered in VA. It was altered when it entered the country. It's been titled before in other states. He bought it from a guy in Florida, where there was also a free and clear title.

I met the guy who owns it, he asked me to put it up for sale for him, I just didn't have the time. He seemed like a nice guy who got screwed over by the person he bought it from, not knowing it is a VIN swap. He's taking a huge loss on this sale.

Also, if anyone is actually interested in buying this I can give you some more info on it, but i'm not really interested in getting involved in the pissing match concerning the vin.

I don't blame you! Thanks for the help though... By the way, I'm good friends with Allen Skillman. I may try to meet up with you if you don't mind to maybe pick your brain on a couple things on the truck.
