Hi guys, I am home now with a rebuilt NV3500. The shifter still needs some tuning, but I'll get it all worked out. I saw the guts of the transmission, there were gears that were literally melted.
I was thinking NV4500 too, but we were stuck on the road and just had to get going. I looked up the torque ratings for the NV3500 and it is well within the 4BD1T's torque output. So that is that. Yeah, it sucked, but its fixed and ready to roll forward, just like me.

Thanks for all the help, suggestions, etc. I'll keep you guys posted.

I really very SERIOUSLY think someone put the wrong fluid in it. If they thought it was a 4500 they should have put 75-90 in it..... the 3500 uses 5-30 and that would cause things to get really hot and lose lubrication.

I have no doubts the 3500 will work fine it it's treated right. That is why i used it. Glad you made it and are not too worse for the wear.

Hi guys. This truck is back on the market. I have owned it for a year and could not get title for it, until now. I had to buy a second vehicle, so this one is back for sale. I have an ad up at Landroverexchange.com
If you are interested, check it out or shoot me a message. Thanks

I forgot to mention that the transmission issue is all squared away. The transmission was re-built, is brand new, and ready to go. My assumption is that either the wrong fluid was put in or the center diff was locked for an extended period. All is well now either way.

Up for sale again. $16k this time.

2000 Land Rover D2

I have decided to sell my 2000 Land Rover D2. It has a DIESEL 4BD1T Isuzu, GMC NV3500 5 speed and Rover LT230 with diff lock. Custom adapters from Isuzu Diesel Swapper and a custom transfer case spud shaft made by Novak. Both motor and transfer case are gear driven, no belts or chains to change ever!

This is a running, driving, wheeling, solid excellent truck.
121K miles on truck (really only the axles and chassis/body left as stock). Synthetic fluids used throughout. Very little biodiesel has been run through motor.

Motor has a Schwitzer S200 extended tip turbo, 3 inch full exhaust, it could be tuned for a LOT more power. It goes well as it is. EGT and boost gauges in the cab.

New high cranking amp battery and engine block heater(starts fine in winter), Custom dual core all aluminum radiator, Tom Woods shafts NEW F&R CV's on both with u-joint conversion rear, NEW rear wheel bearings and ABS sensors. ARB side steps, Super solid custom front & rear bumpers, - welded and bolted complete with 12K winch. RTE lift springs, D1 rear spring perches, DBA rotors and Axis Ultimates pads. Stock thirds and axles.

Interior looks factory and is in excellent condition. Factory Rover clutch/brake pedal assembly and EVERYTHING works as it should. No lights on in the dash cluster, ABS and such working perfectly. Tach/temp/fuel reads correct etc. Factory glow plug indicator on dash functions as does the oil light and other functions.

Price: $16,000

I sold it after I "almost" finished building it for $14K to the guys in alabama - it then got beat/hurt/messed up trans wise, then fixed.... I hope someone has tuned it properly over the years. I sold it with full disclosure that the turbo was too large for the tune and it needs tweaking. I am not sure it was ever done? With the right tune it would pull HARD. I miss that truck.

My guess is it keeps getting passed on because it's not tuned correctly. The motor really runs out of wind with the turbo and pump set the way they are. Id love to have it back for a day to tune it properly.... but given the fact that this is a "off road" only truck to *me* I don't need it. I will finish my legal road going diesel rrc. ;-)

John, ask CAREY! Bastage is taking forever getting me my series parts..... even though I gave him BACK the D1 in trade months ago. ha ha ha

It's coming - the RRC is still apart for the diesel and interior swap.

Just "resigned" from my day job yesterday so now I can finally work on stuff again, till the $$ dry up anyway! ha!

Sent you a PM by the way.

John,

Here's the 3.9 motor coming out of the chassis... not very exciting but hey it's a pic! ha

Either a built 200hp/300tq VW TDI going back in, or a built V8 Rover motor - not sure yet.

And here is the chassis getting shortened 8 inches, still a LOT of plating and structure to add of course...

That answered my question. I guess the OBDII functionality is completely dead on it then?

THe 4BD1T is a sweet motor. Miles better than the 4BT that every seems to want to put into their trucks. I remember seeing this when it first popped up for sale. Very nice

Yes, it was built and sold as an off road truck. It is in no way legal for road use on a Federal level.

The obd2 is dead. I kept the "systems" happy in terms of BCU etc but it is in no way legal for road use even though its possible to slip it by.
