yeah, I figured it out right before I sent it. I can't call (as I am in Iraq for a few more months), but if he replies to my email I can keep in contact that way. Thanks, and I am looking forward to more info. This looks like a cool, "poor man's Defender"...and a way to get the "Rover experience" without spending 20K that I don't have.

Wink

I probanly would have bought this if it was available when I bought my 90 (which came from matt as well). I am about to do a TDI to mine but he just put a crane cam & double row timing chain in w/ 4.10s & ARBs & She is running sweet. So I will be lifing mine because im going over the 30 mark w/ the tdi. Matt will return your email I am sure, he is in firefighter bootcamp right now four days a week so give him a couple of days. Truck will need a bit of finishing but wheels sweet esp w/ the auto. The rims & Tires were 1400 shipped I believe.

Hey keep your head down & Take care over There & if you run into Cpt Liam Connor based out of Alaska give him a hello from Steve in NH!

Cheers

Steve,

I have still not heard from Matt concerning the truck. Did he decide to keep it instead? I am still interested. Thanks

The plenum setup looks "interesting". Any more details?
Also, was the engine ECU of the '96 disco removed and the engine converted to regular carb? [I assume so]

de-ecu'ed?

judging by that big ol edelbrock 4 bbl sitting atop the intake I would say yes. though it looks like it might need some help with the throttle linkage. maybe not but the angle is somewhat extreme. cool truck, wish i didn't already have too many

cheers

Sounds good...I will be patient then. I still have a few more months over here before I can come home. I will send him another email to let him know that I am still waiting to hear back from him. Thanks Steve...

I have finally decided to pass on this truck for a couple of reasons:
1. I am in Iraq (but I will be home soon).
2. I am being moved to another base when I come home, and will likely have to sell my house and buy another.
3. I am unable to go an drive it around beforehand.

Through the buying process, I was able to get alot of good info about the truck, and speak with the current owner (Matt). He seems like a real stand-up guy (he's a LR Master Tech, this is his 4th truck right now so he doesn't have time to finish it, there is not alot needed to make this a really nice, fun trail ride). He told me that he relisted it on LRX and some other site for $6K, so I think that is the new price (he's in the process of buying a house and needs some cash). Here is what I have been able to figure out (through emailing Matt) about the truck that was not listed in the original post.

- It is a '73 Coiler conversion
- The chassis came from a Range rover, and has been undercoated with silver POR 15
- All of the drivetrain is from a Disco (V-8, tranny, axles, tcase, disc brakes)
- The tranny is an 4-speed auto (the ZF tranny)
- The engine was carbed because the original ECU was damaged, so he carbed it instead of finding another ECU (which made the swap a little more simple)
- The wheels and tires are almost new (35" MTRs on steelies)
- It looks like a Defender and has bows and a new surrey top
- He has bench seats for the back

bad:
- the speedo is not working and neither are the windshield wipers
- the interior is rattlecanned tan (but that is not all bad)
- hard top is kinda rough paint-wise and headliner-wise, but solid
- needs a spare tire carrier

I told Matt that I would give him a free bump here, but this looks like a good Rover to start someone off with. I wish I could get it, but I need to get ready to move when I get home and that doesn't leave alot of time/money to work on a truck and play with it. It seems like a nice trail vehicle, and one wouldn't be too scared to get a few dents and scratches since it doesn't cost $35K. Anyway, that is just my opinion, and there are alot of others on this board who would know better than I would.

Bump for Matt!
