97 NAS D90SW - FOR SALE! (Giant post & lots of photos)

After selling my AA Yellow 94 NAS D90 ST in June, its now time to post my Portofino Red 97 NAS D90 SW, as the movers are showing in the next few weeks and my transfer overseas follows later this summer, where Iíll be joining Jonathan (WolfFab) in the far east and looking for the seemingly unobtainium Japanese-spec (NAS 97) D90s.

Iíve been promising to put together a sale post with photos, and after dragging my feet for months avoiding the inevitable itís time. Iíd intended to keep both trucks forever, but Uncle Sam has plans for me for the next few years making that highly impractical if not impossible. My recently sold 94 was the first NAS truck sold new through a dealer (94 #11) (1-10 were car show demo ones) and this truck was among the last (97 #0295)

As with my 94, Iíve invested a small fortune and tons of time in this truck as can be seen with the notes to follow by any of you reading that has priced out any of these additions and upgrades, but itís been worth it to me and continues to be so.

Iím sure Iíll forget something, but as I noted walking around it and sitting at my desk perusing the photos I took today, the following info applies to this ride:
- Approx. 168,5XX miles as of 7/28, It is in good condition, runs great, and everything on or in it works. It spent portions of its life in northeastern climates, but also a little over half in GA, FL and VA (i.e. no salt in the winter). I also worked to drive it minimally this winter since transferring to RI last summer in order to keep the road crap off of it.
- Clear title in hand! (Not salvage, rebuilt, etc.)
- Iíve owned it since December of 2007. I bought it completely stock and running well, just needing some basic routine service work, along with some cleanup from its former life in the northeast that has long since then been completed. All it now has was completed by me or by Rover specialists at my request over my ownership years, with much of it less than three years old. Worn/weathered components were replaced with new or upgraded ones as noted below, and the car has been well cared for and maintained. The truck was restored and repainted in Jacksonville, FL during the summer of í08 by the same specialty shop that had refinished Defenders for Ted Turner and others outside my socio-economic status! When I swapped to the new-style F&R doors last summer, I had those painted by the master painter for LR/Jaguar in VA Beach. New water pump, stainless braided oil lines, sparkplugs, and similar consumable parts have been replaced within the past two-three years.
-Some of the frame and assorted hardware shows some rust/wear/corrosion/ípatinaí and assorted aging as is to be expected from a sixteen year-old car. The frame, bulkhead, rear crossmember, etc. are solid, however, and Rover specialists in RI and FL that have seen it have commented on its solid condition and recommended its asking price after I queried.
- NAS badge #0295.
- Automatic transmission.
- <2000 mile Yokohama Geolander A/T tires, size 285-75R16. (33Ēish)
- Fully functional factory A/C. Blows cold and drips cold condensate on your passengerís feet as designed. ☺
- Old Man Emu springs & ProComp shocks, giving a roughly 1.5-2Ē lift from stock and chosen for the current setup for correct ride height, etc. Effectively new, installed this May when I removed a higher lift and suspension from the truck in preps for sale.
- Corbeau Moab front seats with Defender-specific Corbeau mounts. Significantly more durable and comfortable than the stock seats. When the stock ones needed recovering, I elected to buy these instead as I also did with my other truck. The seat bases show some fading, but a good fabric shampooing has brought back their color before. Theyíre still in excellent and supportive shape.
- (4) Stock rear jump seats.
- Newer-style full-sized SW front doors, of the corrosion-resistant post-2007 one-piece type.
- Newer-style full-sized rear doors, of the corrosion-resistant post-2007 one-piece type, including new-style door card, rear defrost window and brake light mounting.
- Matching ignition and front door keys, of the newer style. (Rear door uses the old style key.)
- Power windows using updated LR Euro Defender power window regulators.
- VDO gauges.
- Magnaflow exhaust and catalytic converter kits.
- Terrafirma tree bar/rock guard sill protectors, the corrosion-resistant zinc coated and then painted ones. Look good, but could use a little paint and a reapplication of non-skid. (I put it on so passengers wouldnít eat it when used as a step in the mud/rain/etc.;
- RockWare front winch bumper.
- Superwinch EPi9.0 winch w/Amsteel blue synthetic line, and winch cutoff solenoid in seatbox.
- Hella H4 headlight upgrade w/ IPF-ARB wiring harness upgrade.
- (2) Hella 4000 bumper lights and (4) Hella 500 roof lights, controlled by factory LR switch on column and center console switch.
- Hella rear work/flood lights.
- Painless dual battery setup w/ (2) Optima yellow-top deep cycle batteries & disconnect switch on seatbox
- Alpine head unit & 6-CD changer & Ipod control in console
- Eight (8!) Polk db-series speakers F&R, mounted in the seatbox, doors, upper rear corners and stock rear corners. One of the previous owners had already cut the seatbox holes for 6x9s, and I ran with it. The Polks sound good, and are also weather-resistant. (These speakers are often installed in high-end boats for this reason.)
- Iron Goat center dash console with all sorts of useful stuff mounted in it. Accessory switches, voltmeter, ammeter, power window switches, etc.
- Cobra CB & weather radio
- Urban Offroad roof rack and mounts/ladder, clones of the LR Safety Devices one.
- One of Clay DeWanís sweet rear swing-away spare tire carriers, with accommodations for fuel cans and HighLift jack.
- Rear taillight guards.
- Towing receiver hitch and US (flat) wiring harness. (Round Euro one still present along the frame-rail, too.)
- Original ownerís manual, extra new-style keys & spare keys for all accessories and center box. I also built up a little breakdown kit Iíve never needed to user (touch wood) that Iíll pass on, along with the crappy stock tool kit/jack stuff.

Iím not interested in selling any of the cool stuff on it or parting it out, and should it not garner a price driving a sale, Iíll be happy keeping it too. A trusted and well-respected local Rover specialist friend recommended my asking price when I broached the idea of selling versus storing it to him.

Iím asking $38000 or best reasonable offer here before I contemplate posting it on Ebay and have to deal with the unwashed masses. (With Ďreasonable offerí subject to the caveats above. ☺ ) Currently residing in Newport/Middletown, RI, itís close to all the super sweet places a truck like this will make you uber-cool this summer and into the future. (Boston, Cape Cod, Nantucket, Marthaís Vineyard, the Hamptons, Newport itself, etc., etc.)

As the folks here on the forum Iíve worked with in the past can attest, Iím a man of my word and great to deal with. ☺ Iím happy to help coordinate with prospective buyers, Iím happy to show the truck to anyone who wants to come and visit it, I can pick you up at the airport in Providence and send you on your way home in your new ride (as I did with Billy and his 94ST purchase last month) and I can probably even deliver it within a reasonable distance for the cost of gas and lunch, but shipping or pickup is the responsibility of the buyer.

I wonít, however release, ship or otherwise move the truck or title without cash or other certified funds in hand. (Iíve actually had this tried during a motorcycle sale a few years ago. Some people!) Iím also not interested in ďholdingĒ a check for 3x the value for your uncle from Nigeria, etc.

Thanks for looking, team!

If we were invading, we'd be allowed to bring the Ds with us!

That's a beautiful truck and good luck with the sale.

I will say that a couple hours with a light rubbing compound really does wonders to Portofino Red. It seems to oxidize quite quickly and a light polish brings the shine right back.

Thanks for all the kind comments, guys.

Yep, I bought it from J-Tis, Scott. My then girlfriend and I had the good fortune to spend a couple of hours with J, his wife and his kids in Agusta when I drove up from Jacksonville and bought it from him way back then between deployments. (After a deployment to the Horn of Africa, as I recall, as I had a 'life is short' moment with some Somali pirate asshats that motivated this purchase and the '08 Z06 I bought around the same time.)

He saw much of how far I'd restored and taken it before he passed away, and he mentioned that he really liked what I'd accomplished. As I recall, he originally intended to turn it into a 110 for family trips, etc, but found a 93 NAS 110 before getting started and sold this one. He was happy he han't torn it all apart after seeing it turned into something special.

I remember his sweet lifted white ST rockcrawler rig, which if I remember correctly is the one used in many photos here on the Forum. (Is that one now yours?)

As many of you well know, Johnathan was a great guy and first-class, and we all took a huge loss with his passing.

No, I never owned it... I wheeled with Tis and his son, Witt, a bunch of times in Uwharrie.

Concerning Tisdale's white D90, his dad recently bought it. The previous owner was gracious enough to sell it to Tis's dad, knowing the sentimental value it had. I saw it the other day and it looks great. Tis was one of my best friends since the 11th grade. Good Luck selling your rig.

I've seen this truck on person and can attest to its condition. It's a great, well sorted truck.

GLWS, and hopefully you'll have better luck than me finding a Jap spec 90. I've only found one Disco. They are like unicorns here...

Thanks for the bump and testimony, J....er, Mr. Miyagi. Two of my DevilDog NWC classmates are headed your way to the southern locales in about six weeks.

Searching online, the 'unicorn' Japanese 90s pop up closer to where I'll be up north, but the pricing seems ridiculous, especially when you consider the climate there is often tougher on Rovers than anywhere in the US can be.

Someone here should buy this collection of awesomeness before I list it on Ebay! (Which I plan to do this weekend if no one commits.)

Konbanwa!

Hi, Trevor-

Received and responded to your PM asking about the A/C and reliability, but haven't seen one from you since then. I wasn't ignoring whatever offer you sent, I didn't get it.
