It is me or do most of these engine "rebuilds" lack receipts? Weird how POs find receipts for oil, tires, armor all, but a receipt for the most expensive part of the car, sorry, don't have it.

Also, averaging 10,000/yr for six years driving in NJ? This is NOT a CA truck. Triple check it is not rusted out.

Sounds like no receipts at all with original owner / owner #1....hence nothing for the rebuild.

Rear carpet very tired and the front mats completely trashed but that's the easy stuff along with the tires. Not sure when/if the shocks & brakes were done or the oil cooler lines replaced. The hoses & belts looked OK but not new and there's a large chip in the windshield along with some minor door card cracks (BFD I say). FWIW the A/C worked but I didn't check the heater or defroster. Also comes with bikini & full soft top. My local guy wants $150-300 for a PPI so if I can get near $25-26 then I'd do the PPI.

Russel- good point on the receipts and because I was running late I didn't actually view the file, the current owner offered it up and seems like a decent (transparent) guy.

Understood. Here is some snake oil for you. Guess my point is without a receipt, I wouldn't let the claimed "rebuild" influence the decision unless someone very knowledgeable looked it over. A leakdown test and oil testing at Blackstone would be a good idea.

I wouldn't care about receipts. I had 30k in receipts on my 110. It didn't mean it didn't need all the same work again. It's like hearing about your girlfriend's sexual past. All you need to know is if she is having a herpes flare up right now.

If you want it, have it inspected for true condition.

Yes, sorry that's pretty much what I was saying...don't let it affect the value since it's a non-influential item without documentation or determining which shop did the work. At $25K if the motor sounds/seems ok I'd say it's a good deal (even if the motor wasn't rebuilt). Though I guess I'd want to know why it needed to be rebuilt a long time ago on what I'd assume to be much lower miles than current 90k.

Barry, you need to be a script writer working w/ Larry David. It is your calling.

This is interesting. I spoke to seller, he said he wouldn't go below 28k. That extra info makes me sure I wouldn't pay 28k, and the fact that it was in the NE for an extended period would make me poke at the frame all over.
If frame is solid, 26k or less would be good, considering it has the multiple tops and would t need too much. Just my opinion.

My understanding is that his anecdote used was from a real-life experience he had.

I'm not Neil. Larry David won't return my calls. Only Jew in Hollywood who can't find work in entertainment.
