87 D90 6.2 GMC engine, 2 inch lift $15,000

1987 D90 with a 6.2 GMC diesel engine. 155k on the chassis 55k on the engine. Price is $15,000.

Exceptional condition throughout for year, as we understand along with a hand typed document in the history pack !! the vehicle has under gone a 7000 chassis up rebuild prior to the date of 2006.

The engine conversion kit is mentioned that it was purchased from Samurai, the gearbox is mentioned to be a Santana heavy duty 5 speed and was bought from Ashcroft along with the transfer box. Has a custom made stainless exhaust system from the manifold back wich has been balanced and flowed to the engine.

The chassis is claimed to have been powdercoated at the time of rebuild, built up with polybushes and 2" lift.

We drove this amazing vehicle home and returned 25 mpg.

impressive performance

Feel free to give me a call at 802-655-4874
Derek

Why, yes that is the truck. Mark @ county and defender is a friend who is an excellent mechanic - is who I bought it from. As it's Christmas he has not updated his website, but it's my car. I can understand that chapman is a purist and does not like it, but it's a great rover. This is my living and how I support my family and he must, surely, at least respect that. Jackie treehorn- I should not have pm'd him as he's not worth it, but I was upset. The car IS mine to sell, so, I am afraid, there is no game, set or match for either of you win in this case.

6.2 Diesel

The 6.2 diesel is not a bad engine and it has been around for more than 25 years. It returns mid 20's on mpg and if you get the right one they put out 330 lb ft of torque(military). The pumps can be turned up for more power. The trucks that used the 6.2 were rated up to 13k payload so I am sure it will move a 90 quite well.

Parts can be found just about anywhere.

Sorry to steal your thread but I get tired of the bashing.

In case you dipshits have not figured it out yet, this post is a scam. It would be no different than me finding a Craigslist add, copy/paste the item description, jack the price up 100%, and list it for sale here.

The vehicle is not even in the sellers possession. The seller claims to have driven the vehicle and got 25mpg. The seller claims the engine has 55,000 miles on it. The seller does not know shit about this vehicle. And since he used the pics directly from Mark's website, I'd say he's never even seen the vehicle or he would have taken his own pics.

------ Follow up post added December 26th, 2011 09:05 AM ------

Oliver, how many 6.2/6.5/6.7's have you worked on? How many have you seen with over 250,000 miles on them?

The engine is shit. It was never designed to be a diesel. it was a gas engine converted to diesel that never ran all that great. That's why you never see older Chevy/GMC diesel trucks on the road anymore, but you still see tons of old Dodges with 400,000+ miles on them.

While I don't really approve of someone posting stuff on a for sale thread..DCHAPMAN has some very good points about the dilution and butchering of the product..I don't agree with fitting of non-genuine GM crap to a Land Rover.. This is a d-90 site...no a GM site..

Actually I am a trained diesel technician and I am certified by Cummins, Cat, Detroit Diesel, Mack and others. I have owned a few of the 6.2 and 6.5's. If we want to have a diesel engine thread I suggest we start one to educate people to the pros and cons of particular engines, lets take it off this for sale thread.

I'm not defending Dan's actions, I would say it comes down to whether or not the OP has actually driven it...Gotta love the drama, but is it wrong to call someone out on a questionable truck? I would say no, but the OP got really defensive and that's say's alot as to the whether or not it's a factual post.

To the OP, if this is your main source of income, then grow a set, be professional and learn to handle confrontation with facts, and not threats, also whining to the mods really doesn't help your cause because it makes it look even more questionable

Provide factual info and that will shutdown any naysayers

and yes, the engine is a turd, some where fine, a lot were a POS...

Firstly I have not asked 30k for the truck! No way near in fact. Costs of importation, taxes, brokerage, RORO or container, registration, insurance BOTH in the UK and here drive up my costs so yes, there is that fact as well as making a living. This is the first defender that I have bought that doesn't either have the V8 or a 200 or 300 Tdi engine. I bought it because I thought parts would be easier to come by for a buyer, and it would appeal to someone who doesn't mind it not being original; or can't afford to always buy LR genuine parts as they are much more costly than gmc. There is nothing wrong with the engine. It gives you more towing capacity and better gas mileage! Not everyone can afford the type of rover that you wish everyone had Dchapman! I am lucky enough to have a UK side to the business where I can test drive and inspect the vehicles before I buy them, so yes, I have got my photos of the rover. If you don't like the truck, do not buy it, simple; but STOP criticizing my business. Thank you to Dogbite and other posters who have tried to keep this a 'for sale' thread. I have bought and sold numerous vehicles - including ones from this forum - and the vitriolic criticism is not only misplaced, it is unfair and unnecessary.

When posting something in the Classified section, please be sure to include a price, description, location, and picture(s) if applicable.

- NO eBay, Craigslist, or other similar type of listings are to be posted in the "For Sale - Vehicles" or "For Sale - Parts" unless it is your own personal listing or auction.

- If its your auction you may post it here as long as you provide the auction's link, what the reserve price is (if you don't have a "Buy Now" option), and that you will close the auction early if a D-90 Source member wishes to buy it right away, regardless of the current auction standings. Auction listings that do not fully meet all requirements will be deleted without warning.

- Craigslist post or eBay listings that you think the rest of the gang would like to see, please post it in the Flea Market section.

- The D-90 Source takes no responsibility for validating the accuracy of peoples listings and any transactions, research, and/or disputes are solely between the seller and buyer, and done so at your own risk.

- If you see a posting that you feel violates these guidelines, please use the "Report this post" link, located at the upper right corner of the post in question, and appropriate action will be taken after review.

Nope, dont see anythign that allows "This truck is a Turd"

The page rules go on to basically say if its a scam the moderators will close it, otherwise STFU

Its a sticky in the section incase you need to re-read

This is an enthusiast site where people come for advice as well as entertainment. I don't really see why someone can't point out the flaws of a truck in the for sale section if it is being listed by a "dealer" and not an individual member trying to sell his or her own truck. I think that there is a classy way to do it and an not so classy way and that makes a big difference.

In reality that 90 is probably less of a turd than the flood of clapped out RHD 110's fitted with marginal Disco 200tdi motors that get 30+ mpg(?)......(at least it's land Rover right?.....try working on that lump!!) with frames that are freshly buried in waxoyl to cover the bits that aren't freshly braille welded.

At least the GM motor is easy to find and cheap to replace and will have enough grunt.

Someone will have fun with it........(not intending to open up a "Dan debate" over the definition of "fun")
