You can only be a victim if you allow yourself to be a victim.. As mentioned before.. If you are willing o believe what someone says about a vehicle and not inspect it yourself then you deserved to be a "victim"... It's like me saying.. Chicken is the best meat ever.... The rhinoliner is not for everyone but I can tell you.. It's pretty cool and functional.. And the interior is perfect and brand spanking new.. The stereo I am not fussed with, but hey, different strokes for different folks..it does have a shoot load of desirable additions already installed and the guy didn't spare any expense on what what installed.. Quite simply.. If ya don't like it.... Don't buy it...if you do like it.. If ya do.. fly down and take a look or have someone do a preliminary check of it..

Dave, it is awful that you got cheated. This truck really has nothing to do with your purchase and that was my point.

I do think you should post the information regarding your purchase (if you have not already) at some point as it may be helpful to other members.

I'm done drawing parallels in vehicle description shadyness between this truck (why i posted it) and my experience buying my own. I will tell you all about my shitbox when the time is right.

------ Follow up post added January 25th, 2013 12:06 AM ------

BTW- Thanks for all the PMs from folks who have had nearly the same experience as I. I'm not glad, but at least i'm not as mad at myself for letting myself be the victim.

Aside from Josh tracing the ownership, you won't get any valuable feedback unless someone has actually seen the truck.

The truck looks nice to me. If I were interested in buying it I would fly to Boca and take it for a drive.

If the truck has a stupid badge on it and some other aesthetic "upgrades" you don't like it really has nothing to do with anything mechanical.

Also, I have nothing to do with that truck. If you are going to bash a truck your reasons should have some substance. A decorative badge that a used car dealer doesn't realize is meaningless does not make the truck a lemon.

Your time would be better served sending the seller a message that the badge is decorative.

I agree.

I've see a hand full of crap ex MOD and country 110s in the US. Pretty much all on par with what condition a 1980s Ford F250 would be in. Good for farm or plowing, but don't drive >60 miles from home in them.... The 110 you posted FS looked pretty well sorted and cared for. Not a bad find for ~$15K, despite rhino coats not being everyones taste ....

The problem is that scarcity of 110s in the US has cause over demand beyond any sensible happiness factor that could come from acquiring one. I can buy 1980s 110s and 88s in Costa Rica for ~$10K. Yet, instead, I chose to spend near double that overhauling a '94 UZJ80, and shipping it down, there for a reason. IMO, old 110s are Sisyphusian projects that require constant adult supervision. Don't take me wrong, I love landies as much as any one this forum, but a 1985 110 is 25 year old english truck, and all that that implies. At least with series truck there is a good supply of parts, now, in the US.

Sorry you took the dive in and found out the water was wretched. No doubt you're next buy will go much better.

Wait a minute, we're NOT supposed to rip on a truck that:

1. Is of questionable origin
2. Is COMPLETELY FUCKING RHINOLINED
3. Has a "$30K sound system"
4. Has a sketchy engine transplant (and the E-Brake on the wrong side)
5. Has at least 150K on the odometer
6. Has 47 glamour photos, but not one shot of any rust prone area or the engine!
7. Is completely fucking rhinolined.

This board used to be cool.

----- Edit ------

Wait - there's more:

8. The rusty seat bases
9. That idiotic badge on the back

I must be the right buyer for this truck. I still don't see what should make you run away. I have seen a lot worse trucks on this site and from other dealers/importers. Call the seller and ask the appropriate questions. Buyer beware, right?

Oh, I love that rhinoline.

====Well, I just called him. I am not the buyer for this one. Wants $75k.

There is never a more appropriate time as the present with a hot thread. Out with the details!

I dont have the pictures loaded. I dont have a prepared narrative. It's going to take some time and I think that the whole affair is best handled during the tear down. The build page may not be a hot thread in itself but look out for it in the near future.

The follow up info being posted about the truck is sadly no surprise.
