i'd pick nits over the writeup being "great", but thanks none-the-less! glad it was at least a little help. if you do end up sufficiently inspired and decide to get after it, feel free to drop me a line and i'll try to drum up a more detailed list of lessons learned for you.

well - i figured i'd come around and bump this back up to the top. i'm still working with a regretful shortage of time, and this truck deserves a better home. still runs well, but i think the thermostat is stuck. she overheats, and i haven't been able to chase down the reason. will check the thermostat this weekend to verify for y'all.

$13,000. it's in Clarksville, TN now.

Abrooks, here's a brief paint job run down (take two):

as it started with a brushed on NATO green paint job, my goal was more "functional correction" than "complete overhaul" - so i didn't strip the body panels or take any of them apart to paint it. i just removed all the lights, the plastic headlight piece, the grille, the hood, the bumper, the vent covers, and then masked everything else off with tape and newspaper. i primed it with a coat of kilz and then brushed on two layers of the rustoleum. if i had to do it again i'd probably use a better primer, but it worked out great anyway. the rustoleum evened out really well as it dried, and has proven to be a pretty tough paint (if i were keeping the truck i'd use the same paint again for the complete, piece-by-stripped-piece overhaul). taping off was a bit of a hassle, but i suppose it always is - i ended up using really strong masking tape to keep it on (hence the aforementioned glue cleaning), but i've recently learned there's automotive-specific masking tape. that's probably worth looking into. also, applying the paint got a bit difficult later in the day during the summer - i had to do it in the morning hours before it got too hot and dried the paint too quickly. a garage that i could have painted in would have been nice. all in all it wasn't too crazy of a project and i'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for an effective way to cure a multi-hued defender
You mean I wasted all that time to strip & prime my truck, I coulda painted it with Rustoleum?
The question is will it hold onto the alumium body.

it's holding on pretty well, actually. better than i thought it would, to be honest. but remember, my goal was simply to fix the NATO flat green someone had brushed onto a body that had seen a fair bit of use on the trails. it's a functional, but not a final, solution (well, unless the person that buys this turns it into a dedicated trail rig, in which case it's goddamn perfect! haha).

Back again! Deployments and such - you know how it goes. Still in Clarksville, though.

And still available at $13,000 if anyone's interested.

Still available! The wife just got into med school, so the math changes a bit. I definitely need to get it sold now, not just leisurely keep it on the market indefinitely.

$10,000

Alright - I've got a number of PMs to respond to in addition to these posts. I'll take updated photos and get back to everyone tomorrow (Sunday).

Thanks, all.
