'84 D90 300TDI, R380 5Speed, California Registered!

I bought this truck from Aarron at Rovers Out East 3 months ago. Its been awesome, but i have to move and will not be able to store it in Southern California any longer. I had some great plans for it so its sad to see it go. It is a 1984 Land Rover Defender 90 recently imported from the UK. Fully registered and legal in california. Smog exempt in CA. One of the very few that have been able to be sucessfully registered in California. I had to jump through so many hoops, it wasnt even funny. Rules are getting tighter, so this will get more difficult for people in the future. Registration is payed and current through 4/12. This defender also qualifies for classic car insurance which is very very inexpensive.

-300TDI engine (the most saught after for LRs) - fully serviced with new timing belt kit, water pump, and radiator...all of which was done as a precautionary measure.

-5 Speed Manual Transmission

-Right Hand Drive

-2"in Lift with BFG tires

-Solid chassis and Bulkhead

-Newly painted Yellow

This is a great unique truck. I believe this is the only one of its kind in California. These motors are much stroger/realiable than the US 3.9V8. Please call me at 310-564-6649 or email iiirobbie@aol.com. Asking less than what im in it for, $17500obo

I havent had a chance to take more photos since the truck is in a friends garage at the moment. These are a few months old and were taken by ROE. you can email for more, but this is how it currently looks:

Could you explain why it was difficult for you to get it registered in California? I know two guys who had zero issues registering an '84 and an '85 in California in the last three years. I wonder if anything changed or if yours was a specific issue.

Yes, it is very gray area, bordering illegal. You usually have to use DMV's lack of understanding of the rules to your advantage.

See this thread regarding my saga attempting to get my 300 Tdi registered....

I wouldnt say its really bordering illegal, but its defitely a pain in the ass. If anyone in California is looking for a diesel defender i would suggest buying one already in the state and registered or at least registered in another US state. Its hard to bring them in from out of state, but its next to impossible ot directly import them to CA.

btw im 6'1"

haha

"As noted, the Defender is a sturdy beast- if it was a video game enemy, it would easily be a level boss. If it were toilet paper, it would take both hands to rip a square from the roll, and it would last for three to four full poops before finally wearing out. "

Horsey do you think when this truck is for sale again in ten minutes it will still have your tires?

Those tires will still be around long after I'm gone.
