'79 Series III Lightweight LHD Diesel 24V

'79 Series III Lightweight LHD Diesel 24 V. Ex-Danish Army. Brought back from Denmark and has clear Utah title. Very original and unmodified. All the Lightweight specific areas to watch for are in very good condition: front grill surround, door bottoms, bulkhead, frame. I aquired the vehicle in 2007. Previous owner at some point had replaced the springs and shocks, (and more recently by look) brake cylinders and drums, and 4 tires. Since then I've replaced radiator hoses, starter, door tops with aluminum replacements (stock Series III), and tidied up the bulkhead, seat frames, seat box, and floorboards. The only serious rust spot was a quarter size whole right behind the clutch pedal where I'm assuming brake fluid stipped paint/undercoating and water did the rest. The rear bumper has surface rust, but is solid. All outriggers are solid. There are 4 inward facing "troop" seats. There is a unique roof rack that I've not seen on any other vehicle. With the sale also comes a NOS woodland green vinyl hood that has never been installed. I also have a set of new various Danish Army stickers if one is interested in keeping it close to as it was during service. Also included but not currently on the vehicle is a pintle hook. Vehicle runs great and all lights, wipers, and heater blower work. There is a little smoke in the exhaust, but no more than any other diesel Land Rover I've seen (I lived in Denmark and that's the majority of what they drove). The ride is typical for this era vehicle and the steering is surprisingly good and tracks well. You could probably drive it home - though I'd budget a lot of time as it is no speed demon! Can't be more than a handful of left hand drive Lightweights in the country and I don't think I've ever seen a factory diesel here. Vehicle is located in Salt Lake City (Draper) and available for viewing/test drives. I've attached a few photos. If you're serious, I can send you more. I also took a short video of the engine running, but the file is pretty good size. Asking $12,500 OBO. 801 707 6447

welcome your comments

Have I priced this vehicle way out of line or is there simply no interest in Lightweights right now? I didn't have much to compare it with when coming up with a figure. I don't want to give it away but still think it is rather rare and really in pretty good shape. The wife says I have to sell it before I can get a Lotus. Partial trades for an '07 Exige S, anyone?

Thanks!

I think it being a 24V diesel brings the price/interest down a bit.

Honestly, priced a little high in this market. LHD is a plus but 24V is a turnoff I'm afraid, diesel probably doesn't help either. I had a 76 Lightweight, paid about $8K for it sold it for around $6,500...about 2 years ago. Feedback I got was the majority of folks looking for a Series LR didn't want ex-military.

Please read and abide by the stickies. If you think this deal sucks, then don't buy.

Read post #2. OP asked for input about his price and I gave it. Nuff said.
