300Tdi Discovery SD7

1997 Discovery SD7, $11,500
  • 155k on the chassis, mileage of Tdi unknown
  • ZF Automatic
  • Defender 110 springs
  • Bilstein 5100 shocks
  • ARB Front Bumper
  • Warn M8000 Winch
  • Safety Devices rack (re-powdercoated last week)
  • 4 Hella 4000's (pencil/cornering)
  • TF Rock Sliders
  • (5) 245/75-16 BFG AT's
This truck came in as a bone stock driver that someone had previously performed the Tdi conversion on. I'm not sure it ever saw dirt, and am pretty convinced someone was using it as a daily driver solely for fuel economy. I had a donor Disco here at the shop that all of the aftermarket parts were transferred over from last week.

I put 1,000 miles on it over the weekend, and it really is a nice running and driving truck. I averaged 20mpg running 75-77 on the interstate rather comfortably. Rust is non existent from what I've been able to tell, and the interior is very strong.

You should have been getting better than 20 MPG. I get 24 city and 26 highway. But then I have an R380 transmission.

Still for a ZF, 20 seems a bit low.

I'm also loaded down with winch, rack, and lift.

Even when mine was V8, I managed 16 highway.

Has the pump been turned up ?

I think the pump may have been tweaked slightly as it does smoke more than I'm used to under heavy acceleration. I was also driving on a rather gusty day so the wind likely wasn't doing me any favors.
