2003 Discovery with Warranty

Selling my wife's 2003 Discovery with 64,xxx miles on it. It has been a great car with absolutely no problems. We purchased it a year ago, and have put very few miles on it since. We currently have 4 cars and a motorcycle so it is time to thin the herd. When we purchased it, we bought the a Land Rover Extended Warranty (100K, I think, but I'll have to confirm all the details) for $3000. It has been a nice piece of mind that almost anything major that could go wrong would have been covered. I breifly fantasized about making an overland family vehicle out of it, but with a 90, a Toyota Pick-up, Volvo XC90 and a BMW F650gs, I really can't justify it.

The Details:

Black exterior with tan Duragrain interior
Power/heated seats
Rear Jump Seats (seats a total of 7 passengers)
AM/FM Cass
Power everything
Dual Moonroofs
Hill Descent Control
Traction Control
ABS
Oversized, relatively new tires
Never taken off-road

For Sale at Kelly Blue Book with transferable warranty:

Not trying to shot you down since this looks like a great vehicule to me, but I think you need to update the Kelly Blue Book link/value (unless you are a dealership):
"The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer".

Good luck with the sale.

I later realized that I had somehow messed the link up, but can't go back and edit it now.

Here is the same link you posted (i.e. same parameter) except showing a private party value:
http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/Pric...e|104219|false

Turns up to be $10,550 for an "Excellent" condition vehicule (not sure if the warranty is a parameter KBB takes).

The bottom has dropped out of discovery prices. I just bought a 2004 with 60K miles in excellent shape for $7,700 from a dealer. Prices are all over the place online. I've seen 04's from 18,000 to 6,900. I don't think they sell for 18,000 unless some idiot doesn't know how to shop around, but they do sell cheap if you look around. I can't figure out how a truck that was 45,000 new 4 years ago can drop so much.

I think the not-so-good-reputation of the D II and the fact that the LR3 is out is likely a factor. Now, did anyone mention gas price scare recently?

I bought an 03 two years ago with 55k miles on it, four year LR warranty, for 13k -- from a dealer. Now you can get similar ones, perhaps minus the warranty, for 7k.

Dropped the price

No doubt, the market seems to have dropped out on these vehicles. I will however make one, somewhat biased, rebuttal.

Firstly, the 2003 and 2004 Discoveries were substantially updated from previous Discoveries, with a different engine, and braking system. I found this article from Edmunds.com that seemed pretty straight-forward and accurate regarding the differences between these final Discoveries and their predecessors, as well as the overall pros/cons.

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...rticleId=69029

Secondly, the price of owning a Discovery of any age is a function not only the purchase price, but also the actual cost of operating it. The difference between a $9k Discovery with no warranty and a $11 one with a warranty can potentially be enormous, in favor of the more expensive vehicle. In fact, I think the biggest hurdle to owning one of these vehicles is not actually the price to purchase one, but the looming spectre of high maintenance costs as it ages.

There you go.

Please, let's not turn my posting into the debating grounds for the price of Discoveries. If you like mine and want to make any offer at all, drop me a line.

Thanks,

Alex

New price: $11K/obo

If you think that is a drop. Have a look at the RR MKIII's. '03's are in the 18K range from what I've seen.
