1997 Monza Red Defender Hard top 52k miles

52,000 miles 4th owner truck in mint condition. "special edition" plate. Car was repainted with factory Monza Red all documents and receipts. Car is in California but was previously owned by mechanic at Landrover factory. Asking $55,000 I have additional imagaes but can only download one to this site from iPad email or call 949-547-7888 in California

That's just a sticker someone put on it. Do you have the VIN? This truck is beginning to sound familiar.

Found it. Didn't you just buy this in March? VIN SALDV3245VA993123

Didn't Adventure Motorcars in Alabama have this?

Never heard of a "special vehicle". Will be interesting to find out if it is legit.

It is explained in the linked posts above. It was not one of the LRNA imported trucks. It was a NAS build demo that stayed in the UK and was imported in 2007.

I'd say it's special if that back story is accurate. Definitely unique. GLWS!

It sounds like it would be very hard to prove its lineage.

Correct. It is the Elite style system that adds AC if the 1997 90 wasn't built with it.
Rovers North's kit.

I wonder what badge it used to have on it. The holes in the tub are there.

Edited:

This 90 didn't have a NAS badge # plaque originally, if it is the one I am thinking of. It was a LR factory truck in the UK and was not imported to the States when it was new. I have an old LRO article on it at home.

Technically, it was built in 1996. Originally it was Portofino Red (not Monza), which wasn't available on NAS SW's in 1995, but was in 1997. It didn't have rear seats originally, only rubber liner, so it likely started life as a soft top. The 90 was held by Safety Devices for R&D (possibly for development of the SW roll cage). It was sold into private ownership in the UK and later converted to automatic. It was imported to Canada by the UK owner and then later sold to someone who imported it to the States. All said, it is a legitimate qualifying NAS 90.

Don't ask me how I remember all of this though........
