But, it is OBDII, so will it be hard to register it in other states?

FYI

as of this year the socialist state of MA does not need to plug in . They just do a safety inspection. That may be true in some other states

Actually the conversion wasn't done by The Rover Barn (Dale) it was done by Rover Automotive in Durham, NC. It has a 200Tdi and I don't see how it could be described as a two owner truck unless Dale bought it new?

Sorry for the hijack...

Here in Fairfax County VA, the ODBII has to be operational. I got a letter from them when I wanted to convert one of my trucks. Maybe there is a loop hole... I did not find it.

I bought the XD truck used, and a RHD Disco from CT that had the 200 just overhauled. Delivered both to Larry to do the conversion. Scrapped the RHD truck, saved the 4.0 that Larry still has...
In NC, once a diesel conversion is done, it needs a DMV inspection, which gets the title changed to diesel. Then the annual inspection gets done, and all diesel conversion get an immediate exception from smog/OBD-II here in NC. I have no idea on the other 49 ways, i.e. states, to qualify it for legal status.

With "diesel" on the title you shouldn't have a problem most places.

In NC it is the dame BUT diesels are exempt from emissions inspection. And the safety only inspection does not require a plug in test obviously.

We don't have emissions testing, the OBDII is part of the safety inspection.
I've heard that people can register their vehicles in South Dakota, all you need is a PO box. No inspections. Anybody heard of that?
Anyone converting a pre '96 Disco to tdi?

I had a 96 disco with tdi in GA. I took it to an inspection facility and they certified that it was a diesel conversion. Then I took that to state title office and they changed title to diesel. Once that was done I never had to get an inspection I made lots of phone calls before buying to clarify procedure.

I performed my first of many thousands of state inspections here in NC way back in '98 and between some of the backwards regulations here and based on what I have heard from folks in other states, not much could surprise me at this point. But this has me wondering now what in the world has the OBD got to do with the safety requirements??

It's the way they can sneak in emissions testing in the "live free or die" state.

what's the reserve?

If it doesn't sell, take the reserve off and see what she's really worth.

Which is why I said too bad its a 97. I know XD's were 97's.

If it were a 94-95 maybe, and not for $18K either. i dont want to play the game of emission/safety testing OBDII roulette unless the seller would sign a legal document stating that if it wasnt able to pass inspection that i would get my money back. Which i doubt would happen (the money back part that is)

Its final bid of $11K, I can see. $1500 truck, $9500 in swap. I could be wrong, but looking at the photos on Ebay is all i have to go off of.

Im sure someone will buy it, but I cant see paying that much unless its been gone over completely and didnt have a sagging head liner....

Wouldnt having a truck that was brought into the USA as a petrol and then swapped to a diesel via a title change be illegal? The VIN will still state that its gas.

I guess if you have that kind of money to gamble with its ok unless you are in a state that doesnt do emissions testing. If i was going back to Ohio it wouldnt be an issue. No safety or emissions in the county I lived in. Unfortunately I will most likely be moving to VA or CO.

Im still looking for a diesel D1, just dont think it will be this one.
