1997 Defender LE For sale/trade

At the risk of getting assaulted for my inappropriate post....I am throwing my 1997 LE for sale. I am the second owner.

I bought this in 3/2013 from southern California. It had been a southern Cali truck near its whole life but spent some time in Canada initially. I had searched 3 years for the perfect rust free soft top, but when this came up, I had to buy it. For the past year, I have made a few updates as listed below, but it is stock otherwise except for a new stereo head.

As the summer approaches, I really am coming back to my original hopes of an ST. I would prefer a trade on a equally rust free ST preferably in Arles Blue, Black or conniston. But I suppose I would consider cash so I could buy my ST.

Details
-1997 Willow Green Badge #72/300
-81,200 current miles
-original SD rack included
-four jump seats and passenger/driver seats pristine
-NO RUST, really
-price $44.5K
-SALDV3247VA124264

Imperfections
-Minor dent on driver side door (cant seem to get it in a photo) - really hard to make
-Clean title without any history of accidents. However, when I purchased it, the battery was dead and it was towed from Cali to Indiana. The odometer was not on so it was listed as a miles uncertain. After numerous attempts with the original owner and BMV, I could not do anything about the TMU status. In Indiana, I can claim a true mileage report and I think my documentation would validate it for the buyer. The carfax shows that it is clearly in the 80K range. I had the odometer sent to Hollywood speedometer and they confirmed mileage. I had them set it at 80,250 just so the carfax was consistent. The dealer who worked on it last listed it a 80K so I added a few hundred to keep any inconsistent mileage from being an issue.

Since owning it 3/13, I have done:
1) Trailhead 4x4 Stainless Steel Oil Cooler Lines
2) Installed Blue Sea Battery Shut off Switch
3) Replaced Spark plugs with Magnecor 80142 Ignition Cable
Set - 8mm Wires
4) Replaced all four rotors with pads
5) Installed Support Bars from Wolf Fabrication (rack did not fit in my garage)
6) New Sears Marine Battery
7) Changed transmission fluid
8) Flushed Radiator

Original Rack and support bars are included. This is the cleanest, truly rust free example of a 1997 SW I set my eyes on. I change the oil every 3 months and have driven it only about 500 miles this past year. You can see from photos that it is clean.

Again, a trade +/- cash is my preference for an equally rust free ST.

Please be gentle on me. This is my first time!!!!

I can send any photos you want - I posted what I thought was important based on previous posts.

If for some reason you don't sell it. I'd be interested in about 2 months from now. Been saving to buy a SW defender, and need a little more time. I am close though, live in lexington ky.

Very nice - love willow green. Was the mileage issue on the carfax when you bought it? Not sure why having it shipped with a dead battery would turn into a title/mileage issue? Did the company you sent the odometer to you or you see the production date of the odometer - that confirmation might help too.

Was it bought new in Canada or lived there after a US purchase? How long did it live in Canada?

Like you I really want a ST but now that I recently moved north I'm really starting to consider a SW.

I'll get to PMs later tonight.
Mileage issue was not on carfax when I purchased. Odometer is original and dated 1997. Hollywood speedometer confirmation in hand.

Hope that helps. Had a fury of PMs so will get to after work tonight.

Thanks for the interest.

Looking back, I should have gone the automatic route, as my wife wants to drive my 94 but I cringe at the thought of her and the LT77 getting along.

I have an itch for a SW, but all my money is caught up in this new house. One day!

Why do the first few pics show a full roll cage and the next few show it without the rear part? Is the that part easily removable? Why would you do that?

Easy - just a couple of bolts. Different strokes for different folks.

Interesting. And it's a 94 with 95/97 tail lights. Seems like a decent price

If you google the VIN provided in the eBay ad you'll find the old photos showing it was quite a bit more than just a hammer.

We had discussed this truck somewhere here in the past.
