1997 D90 NAS ST - AA Yellow - $42,000

1997 Land Rover Defender 90 ST
NAS #1780
AA Yellow
VIN: SALDV2248VA117723

This is a very clean one owner D90 that was sold new by Mission Viejo Land Rover to an old surfer in Newport Beach who drove it regularly until selling it to me, a dealer, also in Newport Beach. We have the original window sticker, service records and the owner's manuals (with dealer service stamps in the back). The mileage is 103,000, but the body, paint, interior, chassis and trim could pass for 30,000.

It is complete with fresh tires, a full soft top with all windows, a bikini top and a very nice fitting tonneau that covers the entire rear seat/cargo area. The interior looks new including all of the vinyl trim and rubber mats. The forward facing rear seat is in excellent condition as well.

Please feel free to ask any questions or request a full set of photos. We welcome third party inspections and are willing to drop the car off at any local shop you choose once we have the makings of a deal in place, but be advised we are pretty firm on the price.

Last mileage reported was in 2009 at 132,314 and I think that asking price is way too steep for a truck with at least 132k miles. That's just my two cents though.

This is a prime example of why these vehicles are through the roof expensive. Used car salesmen and other assholes like John Vatta join this forum once they get their hands on a Defender in hopes of turning a $10-15k profit. This forum was not created to turn a profit. This forum was created to help people maintain their vehicle. It was created to sale their vehicle at a reasonable price to someone who will appreciate it.

John Votta. Haha. He still logs in almost every day.

Good luck with the sale.

As I continue to look for a 90, I am blown away to what I am seeing as far as pricing. If I pay 40k for a truck I better be able to eat off it.

That thread knocked $5K off of his asking price...

The mileage is accurate at 103,000. A smog tech made a mistake a few years ago.

I've been starting to look and I feel the same way.
However, I'm convinced if this vehicle were on the east coast (perhaps around the Boston, MA area) it would fetch a premium.
Too bad for guys like us looking for a clean D-90.

Who knows, I just think values are inflated now, but maybe I have no idea what I am talking about. I've said it before, seems to me if a truck is 60k miles or less and is completely stock, zero rust, sure, $35-45k seems fair. But 45, 50, and 60 thousand for a D90 (like you see on ebay and craiglist now for that matter) is flat out ridiculous.

Let's not start pissing in peoples Cheerios... The truck looks nice and seems to be well maintained. Plus, yellow commands a slightly higher price. So, let him ask whatever he wants.

And, like anything, you can always make an offer if you are interested. You don't have to buy it.

Hey I agree. This is a free market and people can ask whatever the heck they want to ask ... And from the outside this does look like a clean truck. But I think a lot of individuals and dealers see 90's listed on eBay asking $40k and assume that any Defender with a fresh wax will command that price. These folks certainly had high hopes for their Ford Windstar on eBay ...

I've seen the truck in person. I was driving by and stopped. They also had a series pick up for sale. They didn't seem to care I came in a defender.

I don't think they sell them with that any miles in Boston.

Maybe if the price was right (hint, hint).
I'd much rather have a high mileage, clean, rust-free vehicle than low miles and "corrosion apologies" as they call rust issues around here.
