1995 Lwb $2000

Black 1995 LWB daily driver (60 miles a day roundtrip) which up until yesterday ran like a champ. 156,xxx miles. Now it is making a sucking/squeaking sound and is down on power (still goes 80-85 but she not happy about it and it take a bit to get there). Oil and trans fluid looked fine, but coolant was low ergo thinking she blew a head gasket (she has never overheated, but it seems the most likely conclusion). Sythetic fluids (other than trans) from me and the previous owner and synthetic oil every 3-4000 miles.

The good: This thing ran great until yesterday and I have been a good rover owner to her. She has a coil conversion with bilstien shocks, borla rear exhaust, rubber floor mats, a new fan switch for the heater/AC (no cutting out on high position), new front pads as of 2000 miles ago (genuine), newer upper tailgate with no rust, new air filer (genuine), old style center caps rather than silver.

Other issues: Cracked windscreen ($270 at safelite for non-heated installed, used heated from Will T for $150), will need rear brakes [probably soon] and tires [really soon], could use a service (last 30k service was done at 127k or so she is due for another one), power steering leak, cruise inop, one cat rattles but has given no issue, driver seat bottom slightly worn, but not badly, headliner sagging, but not too bad, rust in rear floor near lower tailgate due to bad seal, key mark on passenger's side (I fill it with black wax and it looks fine), ABS disconnected (rear sensor needs to be reset or replaced).

I don't have pics. It looks like an LWB, its black with tan leather like a lot of them. I am not getting pics. You are free to come and look and suggest you do because of the issue that is presumably with the head gasket.

BOTTOM LINE: I don't have time to deal with this thing with my other projects so as soon as I have a buyer for this lined up [I sold my D90 too] I am going to buy something that is smaller, faster, and gets better gas mileage (ie an XJR/lotus/5er/saab/5 speed disco).

:-(

Trades considered on anything that runs, has a valid PA inspection, and gets more than 14 mpg on premium.

Finally a realistic price LWB....especially with the known issues. Got PICS?

best of luck in your sale. I may try to swing up and take a look at it .

Why don't you swing up, pick it up and fix it, and flip it back to me :-)

Ron

PS I am serious on this one. If you could fix the motor and put in that windscreen you have I would be happy to have that done and pay you.

What kind of condition is that windscreen in, Will? Mine has scratches from the passenger wiper which look like crap.

(sorry for off-topic)

Oh, and Ron, I've got a friend looking for a cheap RRC LWB. He just did a head gasket on a Disco I so he might not mind the issues. I'll let him know.

On the topic of your scratches - Tthere are places that can buff the scratches out. It might not be perfect, but I have seen it done and it looks ALOT better at least.

Frankly I am just being a pansy about this LWB.

As soon as Mike gets me the parts to fix it I probably will and it will be off the market. The girl I am dating nearly rioted when I tolder her I was planning on getting rid of it.

She sounds like a keeper! If she buys you an old 110 then you better run, not walk, to the jewelry store.

Yes, well she was put off by the "bugs" [literally--as in spiders--not the electrical kind] in the D90 so we are not so sure yet.

No longer for sale. Issue turned out to be a bad cat.

A little flogging and it is better now.

They would set up shop on the roll cage, I thought it added character.

No, you are not getting them, they all died this winter from the cold.

Not in russia! There were only a couple. I considered them anti-theft devices.

Bump:

Same price. 185k miles now.

"Everything" fixed [except as described below]. Has good tires (80k warranty tires have 30k on them, need a rotate but probably good for another 30k), new windscreen, new heater switch (which I don't use on 4 so it is as new), rebuilt seat ECU (new battery as of 6 months ago), new front brakes (calipers, rotors, pads), newer rear brake pads, had cross seals, head gaskets and valve job and new heater core done 10k ago by a rover master tech, passed PA inspection recently, perfect liftgate (no rust). Ignition stuff and 30k service stuff including trans fluid done about 20k ago, most of the hoses are newer, ball joints are newer.

I mechanically maintain this thing to the max and it shows. Runs like a CHAMP. Uses a quart of oil once between changes (1500-2000 miles). Synthetic every 3-4k for over ~150k of the truck's life (me and the PO).

Known issues: Rust* in rear floor/body crossmember [NOT FRAME] and front drivers' side floor and one rear seatbelt mount. PS leak (going on 7 years with this), ABS sensor in the rear (might work after I did the hubs, bulb has been pulled for 7 years with this too). Cosmetically ok and presentable but not great, the headliner is sagging, it has scratches in paint, D/S seat leather is worn but not torn, rotoflex is old, but I have a non-rotoflex rear driveshaft and diff I can sent with you.

New girl has been driving it to Wilmington daily (60 miles round trip) without a hitch. Although she is getting 17mpg! (she drives 65-70mph), she wants something that is better on gas.

Hate to see it go, but will love to see it go to a home where it can be appreciated and have the needed rust repairs done. I would hate to see it get turned into a wheeler. She deserves better and does quite nice stock off road.

Ron

*the crossmember is $150 and it is the BODY not the frame crossmember. This is really common. It also has holes in the floor in the back (seams are bad) and in the drivers side footwell. The rest is pretty rust free. These repairs would take a competent mechanic/welder a couple full days to complete to a good to high standard. I could do them, but I don't have a couple days and I am not the best fabricator and don't want to "ron good" the welding and mess up the truck. 16 hours * $80 + $200 for parts makes it just not worth it for me to do the work so if you can DIY you are good to go because mechanically she is awesome.

This is the body crossmember I am talking about that is rusted out.

I don't know the PN off the top of my head, but I saw it at one of the US places for ~$150.

YRM gets 52 quid
