Well... I'll jump in too. The top roll bar- the light tabs are facing the wrong way. Maybe it got mistaken and put on backwards, then bent to fit- thus explaining the "high" appearance.

If you don't know to look for it, I could imagine a scenario where a light hit on something- a low parking garage- could damage the cage and then it was taken off to repair and a shop didn't know any better.

Or, my truck is messed up. But other than that, if this truck was green and on the east coast I'd go get it.

Chris, you are so right on . I am the owner. It is kind of funny actually. I bought it from second owner. I knew the guy. There are no accidents. I have no idea about the roll bar. The seats have front covers on them. After Market, but when I start removing them, the orginal twill is there and actually looks in amazing shape. There are only a couple deficiencies.... headliner is drooping...not drop down completely, but drooping in spots. There is key marks along oneside that I never felt were an issue. I guess I could have painted then it would be a $25k car.

Why I love DSource...

Looking at buying this 95 SW out in Los Angeles that's current on ebay. Something seemed a little off, so I spoke with Ron, Josh and Barry. Subsequently, found this vintage thread (thank you DSource) - the VIN was listed...

https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sf...380799649.html

Does anyone here know how to answer the following questions:
1 - what is up with the roll cage? Can't think of any good reasons why it would be altered unless it was rolled...

2 - Why would a carfax only go back to a certain point in time - it begins it life at 60,000 miles? Good case it's weird gray market car that was sucessfully washed - I don't really understand that market so hard to speculate; Bad case - it was salvage, etc.

3 - As it sits, there is no plaque on the right rear corner, its been replaced with an old series badge and no #.

Appreciate your thoughts
Chad

The hood looks whiter than the body too.

This looks to have been rolled. No other reason to have this many modified panels and roll cage

Funny how the guy on craigslist posted the wrong VIN for his truck. Used an 8 instead of an S

Do I have a next move in finding the provenance of a d90 if the carfax is dead end, starting at 60k. Seller doesn't know anything.

In your diligence were you able to run down if it was rolled or find any history before 60k miles?

thanks

These comments are why I am scared shitless to sell either of my Defenders on this forum. I love this place, and my wife will tell you I troll it too much.

This truck was a bargain for anyone. I'm disappointed I missed it because one of my best friends is looking for a low price NAS 90 to be his daily driver.

Keep them then.

Did you tell your friend about the 1997 ST white in NJ for $18k that has popped up on here a few times now?

The comments didn't seem too scary - having a non-stock cage and a carfax that starts years later at 60k miles are some red flags. It just seemed like some members here were trying to conduct the due dilligence on the vehicle that the PO had not conducted himself when he purchased it.

I understand the concern if the seller were asking $30k, but the seller was asking $18k. That's almost unheard of and a hell of a bargain for a truck that you can easily bring back to original condition. And yes, I am keeping my defenders!

Shoot me the link to that 97 you're talking about! Thanks!

Seller was asking $30K on the fresh Craigslist ad. In 2009, during the peak of the slump, truck was $18.5k.

It's cheap and it moves. You didn't say anything about it needing to be perfect too!
