1994 Defender For Sale 10K obo

Were you thinking to yourself, " self- I wish I could own an Ultimate off-road vehicle"?

Well, the good news is, you can! This is no garage queen. This is an honest to goodness daily driver utilized to its fullest potential, sometimes at the expense of the Truck.
It is time to let go of the only truck I have ever loved, and loved it I have. I bought the truck when I was 18, and fully utilized its persona of being a nearly indestructible off-road vehicle. It has bee on the trail, and unfortunately on its side, and seen much use. Upon buying a Defender you don't get a car, you get a brotherhood... The car is not for people looking to blend in, it evokes waves and smiles from passers by, and waves and stories from those whom currently own, or once owned, or in most case those who one day hope to own such a vehicle. You may be pondering why, this guy seams to be really attached to this spectacular vehicle, it leaks, it coughs, and it is currently ugly. I will struggle to explain. It's not really about logic as say, buying a Honda, a BMW, or even a Jeep is. Obviously you would not be reading this if you were satisfied with the status quo.

The Good:
It is the ultimate off-road vehicle, It is a valuable starting point to build the Defender of your dreams.
I just swapped out the Transfer-case with a 75K unit and I have the core that is ready to rebuild and re-install
I have GBR drive-shafts front and rear
Rovertym 3" lift kit
It has AC condenser and and compressor, I don't have the controls... Long story
It red, its a Soft Top-yes all 94's are, and it has the body protection package (hood, fenders, and side sills)

The Bad:
The Heads are warped, the Head gasket is Suspect, the car has 161 K, and it generally tired. I have sourced a 25K 3.9 that came out of vehicle that completed a diesel conversion, I can either pick it up or get you the contact information...
This would be an excellent Diesel candidate.
The heater need a new blower motor.

The Ugly:
The Body is rough.
The interior is Ugly and needs to be addressed.
The title is rebuilt, I bought it after a fire in the engine compartment

I uploaded pics in this morning, but rest assured if you are relying on pics to make up your mind, you should more than likely move along, or if you are in east Boulder county or buzz around Evergreen, you have seen me, yes it is *that* one.
P.S. Thanks for flagging!

Do you have photos of the inside? Also what was the rollover like? Bad body damage? Did you repair anything?

I think it was just a flop on its side. By looking at the pics you can see there aren't many straight body panels.

From a few months back:

I have been debating whether I should post the pictures or not since it is not my 90 but several people have asked about them so I will post them and the owner can have them removed if he feels that I am out of line. I only took pictures of the rough areas to look at later and areas not pictured were in line with a high mile rough defender.

I went to his place fully intending to purchase it if he would come down on the price a little based off the pictures I was able to find on the internet. After looking at it in person I was still thinking about making an offer on it but he seemed kind of firm on his price and he had an offer sight unseen that was more than I think I would want to pay for it. FWIW I am still somewhat intrested but it would have to be at the right price.

Really rough but could be rebuilt with enough time, love and $. Best bet would be to build a buggy or off-roader out of it.

Test drive was ok, I took it up to 65 and it did ok going down the road, when I took my hand off the steering wheel it would wander some but not too bad. It did feel a little odd on the road compared to other 90's but that could have been the lift or worn bushings. RPM’s would stay a little high (around 1000 -1200 rpm) when stopped and would sometimes drop back to normal but sometimes it would remain high.

The good:
I went down the road OK for the few miles I drove it
It has a VDO tach installed that works
Frame seemed to only have surface rust no major rot noticed
has a 3” lift
It is a Defender

Things I noticed that were wrong

Power steering res missing cap, dirt inside and power steering not working very well cap appears to have been missing for a long time belt still connected.

2nd gear crunchy

Owner stated that it uses coolant

Fuel odor by rear cross member on driver side

Motor making a knocking noise from front when first turned on, quieted down to a clicking noise after warming up

Brakes pull hard to passenger side and need replaced

ECU laying on passenger side floorboard

Transfer case has major leak 3” + puddle after sitting 5 min from test drive

Windscreen cracked on both sides

Hood has clearcoat on it that is peeling

AC controls missing and fascia broken

Passenger side visor missing

Passenger side ST windscreen trim missing

Driver side bulkhead bowed and dented

Driver side bulkhead floorboard rusted, passenger side looks good

Air cleaner missing cap, filter looks extremely dirty

Passenger side fender beyond repair and needs complete replacement

Driver side fender needs outer skin replaced

Rear crossmember has surface rust no major rust holes noted

Driver side inner tub buckled (entire driver side tub needs replaced)

All seats shot

Binnacle loose tabs broken / missing

Check engine light not illuminating when key is turned to on position

Oil pressure light not illuminating when key is turned to on position

Blinkers not working (binnacle lights not working either no clicking sound)

Cover missing from ignition switch area and wires exposed / hanging down

Heater not working

Hood release not working properly

Relays hanging down out of dash and exposed

Driver side fender needs new outer skin

Wires in passenger side fender well hanging down and damaged

Drive side bulkhead floorboard rusty

Rear passenger side taillight guard pulled away from body rear panel needs replaced

Dash cracked, has holes drilled in it for tweeters that are missing and the ashtray missing

Cantrail foam shot

3rd brake light bar very rusty

Tire carrier very rusty but repairable

drivers door frame dented from flop and rusty entire door needs replaced

both door top uppers need new felts glass rattles

belt rails screwed into body

all doors hard top open / close

hood very hard to open / close

Registered in a county with no emission and it has been years since it had an emissions inspection

ran autocheck against vin listed as salvage and possible ODO issues

It is number 1359.
The Blinker are back.
Oil Light is Functional, and checks out.
I had a scan run on the Check Engine light and it checks out... Not sure why it does not illuminate in "on" position.
That being said, the truck it rough, and I felt I represented it as such. I disclosed the title "s" issue, I am certainly not trying to pull the wool over anybody's eyes, I did not list it here because I was leery to sell it sight unseen. I posted on local Craiglist, and I got flagged 4 times in 3 days, so I posted it here to test the waters. I am totally willing to move on price, but blind $5500 offers are not even close. IT IS A PROJECT, and yes you will more than likely end up upside down, but it is a car, when you spend money on them they are usually worth less than what you have in it. Thanks Dave for being a more rations set of eyes, and I am sure that your write-up will be a tremendous asset to potential buyers.

Thanks,
Carl

And the ODO check section it checks out. When an "Salvage" title is issued in Texas they do not certify mileage, that is the reason the mileage is flagged.

Glad you do not mind that I posted the pics Carl.

You seem like a nice honest person and your ad pretty much matches up with what I found. Pictures are always nice to have so hopefully they will help find the right buyer that can bring this beast back to life

Who knows maybe we can make a deal dependant on what offers you get

Like I said, I am totally trying to be as honest as I can about the truck...
I can include a 3.9 Longblock out of a 95 Disco with 25K on it if that sweetens the deal...
I have the T-case that need a new input bearing, or rebuild to suit. The T-case that is in and leaks, was a temporary fix while I rebuilt the original.
I bled the front breaks and they no longer pull, but passenger caliper needs to be rebuilt/replaced when pads are done.
I have a bin with bits and pieces from the truck... Let's make a deal!
