1988 Defender 110 Station Wagon, looks/ drives great. UK imports?

I have a shop/ business in Portland Importing containers from the UK (and elsewhere for years now), and have lately been branching out into Land Rovers, particularly Defenders. On my last trip there a couple of weeks ago I purchased this 1988 Defender 110 County Station Wagon (along with several other Defenders). It is a very clean, nice tidy truck with 134,000 miles on it.

This LWB Defender has a 3.5L gas V8, and have been converted to run on either LPG or gas. Engine starts and runs/ drives great. I should mention the truck has recently passed its MOT, which is England's version of a licensing inspection, and if the vehicles there have any structural or mechanical problems, they are not 'passed' and registered. SO - This truck is very solid and has no issues. Manual transmission shifts great. Interior is very clean. The only rust I found was on a couple of the door bottoms. Frame is solid, and it has a new cross-member in the rear.

I am shipping containers just about every month, and have also been importing turbo diesel engines as well as body parts, tops, frames, and other classic cars. Mini Coopers are a specialty as are Citroens, Unimogs, and Rolls Royces. If you have any parts or shipping needs, or a special request for a vehicle, let me know and I am sure I will be able to help.

I also offer complete Turbo-diesel conversions here at my shop for Range Rovers and Land Rover Discoveries. I use all original Land Rover parts, and these engines allow your Rover to return 25-30MPG and you can also convert to bio-diesel and 'Go Green' ! Engine packages out the door with transmissions, radiators, intercoolers and all parts for conversion are $4500.

The Defender pictured here is available for $16500 as pictured, delivered anywhere on the West Coast with Oregon title. A difference between my Defenders and some others you may find on ebay/ online is that I can usually fly out to inspect/ drive and take pictures of the trucks myself, and if I can not do it, I have trusted, reliable contacts on the ground there who inspect and collect for me. I also often load the vehicles and containers myself, and can fit a lot of extra, or hard to ship items in with the Defenders. This truck has been collected and is scheduled to sail in about 10 days, so it's arrival date here in Portland is expected to be in Mid-January.

Additions/Options are as follows if you would like : LHD conversion to get the steering wheel on the left; $2500, 200 or 300TDI / R380 5-speed transmission conversion 'kit', installed -$5500, roof rack $650 ... Snorkel kit $250 installed - What else would you like?

Please email with any questions. Defenders are sold on a Deposit-now basis, and balance to be paid upon collection of truck here in Portland. All parts/ vehicles/ service is guaranteed. Message me for more pictures and/or details, Thanks -

That's not bad. How much if one also wants the clutch, brake, and accelerator pedal on the left? Plus the windshield wipers to move in the correct direction?

Well, I do not offer a clutch/brake/accelerator pedal conversion, but do know a guy who offers discount leg-extensions and accepts health-insurance..

I'll check on tops, Squaretyre. I charge actual cost + $400 to ship. 130tdi: I was (trying to be funny) joking about the pedals, in reference to the comment left before. LHD conversion includes moving everything to the left. I suppose if I am going to be heckled, however, I should not have posted here.

Zak,

There have been many new guys/shops that claim to offer a good deal. Chalk it up to a bit of ritualistic hazing of the new guy. Get a few trucks stateside, provide great service to your customers and build a solid rep. The rest doesn't matter.

Thank you Paul. Good advice which I am making efforts to display adherence to. I have had a few of these trucks at my shop here already and they managed to sell before I ever had a chance to advertise them. I was just branching out trying to get more exposure and offer help in finding hard-to-find-and-ship parts. I just got back last week from my last trip to the UK and am going again in just over a month, so thought I would put feelers out if anyone needed anything.

Thank you again - ZM

As a show of good faith to the D-90 community you should donate a 200tdi and trans to me

Good luck with your business, you have some tough competition out there, but competition is always good. There are some really great and established folks doing what you do in the Community.

I wasn't heckling. I was asking a sincere question. I'm somewhat amazed that anyone on the planet can offer to do lhd conversions for $2500. My cost on "take off parts" to do the job is twice that and that only gets me the dash and a heater. The steering, axle knuckle, wiper rack parts, brake and clutch lines all are additional. Parts alone before I pick up a wrench are easily $5500-$6000.

Got any pictures of one of your $2500 lhd conversions ?

Hi Ed,
You made the right call! The problem with the defenders is, people know/ start to realize they can be worth a lot of $$$$ Most of us know when they see a rust bucket or a nice project. Most people see a "defender" and are willing to pay a lot of $$$$ for them. So there will be a market with sketchy defenders/ persons trying to make a quick $$$$$.

Lucky for us we have this forum that holds a ton of information and knowledge! So in the end the truth always comes out! On this forum you can't bull shit the members!
