1986 Land Rover 110 - 200tdi with A/C

The bizarre and inhumane California Air Resources Board has moved the goal posts once again and have made it utterly impossible to bring into compliance any direct import.

"Elsa": Newly restored 110 that was originally a Danish spec (LHD). Last weekend a 200tdi was just swapped in for the knackered 2.5NA. Not much information on the engine's mileage but it runs well and very clean (long freeway, 10 mile 4-6% steep grade and offroad test). It has a new timing belt, water pump, belts required gaskets, etc.) It also has a brand new air conditioning unit built for a 300tdi but fully converted for the 200tdi complete with custom bracket for pump that was sourced in the UK from an a/c specialist.

Too many features to list but here is a go:

All new interior (everything)
-Exmoor Elite Seats (2+2+2) in black leather
-Exmoor Premium Loc-boxes (middle of rows one and two) in black leather
-Custom leather door cards in black leather
-Custom dark grey swede headliner
-Custom leather dash and leather gear gaiter
-New black carpet throughout with floor mats for row one and two
-Sony CD/USB Stereo
-New seatbelts

Accessories
-Front Runner roof rack
-Four front auxiliary lamps (totally 80's)
-LED rear work light
-Tow bar
-Sump guard
-Rear tire carrier with cover

All new windows, doors, door latches, seals, brakes, suspension, bushings, custom (Atacama Grau) paint (in and out), Waxoyl and it goes on.

Everything is in excellent working condition. In addition, I have about $800 in spare parts (pumps, filters, gaskets, alternator, clutch, etc.) for the 200tdi that goes with the truck.

The truck is fully cleared from US Customs but cannot be registered in CA or sold to a CA resident. If you are considering a similar vehicle customs clearance alone would run a minimum of $4k-$5k.

I am happy to deliver clear MT title or deliver via bill of sale.

It has been a pleasure being a part of this forum so I will be posting this exclusively here for a few days before marketing otherwise. Happy to answer questions about the truck itself.

Convert to an LS and be compliant 200 is worth 4-5k so you would only be out 3-5k to keep a killer truck! Nice rig

The Mercedes OM617 is CA compliant in case anyone is wondering.
You could buy an OM617 engine and conversion kit for what you could sell the 200TDI for.

Yeah, the wheels, rack, color, etc. gave it away. They seem to always go with that combo.

Hi, just a dumb question since I am new to this forum. Why this vehicle cannot be sold or registered in CA. It had a CA license plate in the picture already? What compliant you guys talking about? Thanks!

Out of curiosity, what is not CA compliant? The 200TDi did appear on 25-year-old Defenders (some 89's had them I think?) so isn't it possible to fit the newer motor from such a vehicle?

If you registered in a different state, then moved to CA, how would that scenario be handled?

I've been thinking about doing an import for awhile now to move from my D90 to a 110.

Ca. emissons laws are changing fast! they do not recognize the 25yr rule according to DOT/EPA... i had to sell my d110 cause it did not comply... i was reffered to a CARB repair station to make it compliant... but to do that it's going to cost $10k to $15k

as far as swapping in a compliant motor ... you can do that however CARB will probably have to verify it

if you are thinking about importing a rover from europe or any other US state... don't do it cause ca dmv won't let youregister it here! and its just a pain in the ass! better yet just buy a series truck!
