1986 Defender LHD
Defender 110 that has well over 95k invested in it over the past 5 years. Many tasteful upgrades to modernize it. This was originally a Land Rover UK restoration that was sold to someone in California and he was unable to register in California so I purchased it from him. It looked great but needed lots of drivetrain work. Upon receiving it, the head was bad. Originally this was a petro and they dropped a 200tdi into it. I replaced the head, but there was still trouble. I purchased another 200tdi and had that 'professionally' rebuilt and put in. Lots of other work was done including changing the gearing so it can cruise at highway speeds. It is a strong setup now. The rebuilt engine has 3200 miles on it. In keeping honest on this posting, it does have a small oil leak at the rear of the engine. This is like a quart per 2500 miles type of leak. I can't get this figured out. It is for someone smarter and more talented than me and my former mechanic.
Mileage keeps changing as it is driven. Just about everything has been replaced and has under 5000k miles on it. Spring, exhaust, breaks, clutch...... Interior is all updated and has killer sound system. I have enjoyed this beast, and sadly I have to pass her on to the next owner as my life changes and I will be working on a new project. As with any Defender, there are things that can always be done. They are constant projects of passion. Current things that can be addressed in time: could use new wiring harness. It has been described as should be replaced to it is ok. Everything is functioning properly, but it could use replacement. Right rear door lock is currently not working. Dome lights were never wired up. Never needed them. I didn’t hook the AC up after the rebuilt. The interior unit is there, an aftermarket compressor and lines can be added back on easily. If you know what you are looking at, then you know this list is short. Tires have about 5000 miles on them, which is when it was restored in England. Frame has just over 400000km on it. I replaced the speedo when the engine was rebuilt. I have the old one to back it up. I also have the old 200tdi that comes with it, along with various other parts and pieces. This is comparable to those asking well over 100k.
With the oil leak, I know that I can't get what others like this are getting in the marketplace and I know that I will take a bath on some of the investments. I would like this to go to someone that can fix the remaining issues and enjoy it.
I have it posted it other places at $92k, but I really want to get $82k, which I believe is a very fair price. Vin is SALLDHMC8BA253382 Located in Burlington, Vermont. Text or call 802.238.8084
