1986 110 Sation Wagon

Hi all, I haven't posted for a while on the D90 site, but thought I would offer my '86 110 for sale. The truck is located in NJ/NY and has been sitting for 5 years due to my heinous divorce back in 2001.

First the good news: I had the truck imported in 1999 by Mountain Rovers. I invested over $30,000. The engine had approx. 65,000 miles on it, tranny was good, has all OME suspension, stainless exhaust system, custom ARB type bumper with hydraulic winch, 110 rock sliders and custom rear tubular bumper. In 2000 the truck even won 2nd place
best British Car at the British Car show. Used to run it with the NY Land Rover Club, but I believe they are disbanded?.

Now the bad news:
The truck was held hostage during the divorce, and then released back to me. It has been left un-attended since 2001. Much work to be done to get it rolling. Clutch is frozen, light electrical work at dash , dash needs parts, and rear lights need attention, interior should be gone over, surface rust on chassi, needs new door latches, some rust on cross member , rust on English roof rack, etc.. etc.. etc.. Definitely not a show car anymore. Best way to get full answers is to call me.

Basically it was neglected pretty badly and left for dead. I don't have the heart to restore it, and am content with my '95 D90 SW which I had kept in my possession all this time and pampered. So I'm willing to take a beating on the truck to sell it to the right guy who can restore it. So best offers starting at $5K is what I am offering. You deal with shipping. I can take specific pics for interested parties.

1986 110? yes, it is titled in NY as a 1966 , Land Rover. So no worries with emmissions. Sorry about no pics, I can send them via email.

Thanks for looking.

Hi, that is correct. To import it, the purveyor bought a '66 109 chassi to get the title. The title was applied to "rebuild"
the 1986 110 which came in "parts",The original 110 chassi was kept. so on and on. The title is a legal '66. Had it registered in NY for 4 years.
I'm sure a more knowledgable importer of custom LD could explain such details.

If the chassis was used to get the title and the chassis isn't on that truck, then that truck isn't the one on the title. Title is to the 109 chassis, wherever that is. You just explained in detail the most common illegal way to smuggle an illegal truck. Whatever, dude...

Well, it depends on how you look at things. Most parts are interchangeable on Landrovers, more so than other vehicles.
One can convert a 109 to a 110 or vice versa. Or one can convert a 110 to a 130 or even a 145?. Then there are diesel conversions to NAS trucks, such as the 300TDI and the HS 2.8, both which are not EPA approved in the US. That would put many Landrovers on the D90 site as illegal I suppose. What about switching to a galvanized chassi? which title is used in that?.

Since you seem to think my truck is illegal, I invite you to to find out what the legal ramifications are of the titling when building a truck. I did. While you do that, I would appreciate being able to post my vehicle for sale in the D90 forum in peace?

Marc... you, unlike myself, are one lucky man to get your goods out of Terry Neal. Did you come away with all you paid for? Is your truck the red one with the white top that Terry did up before screwing me out of $15 large?

Yes, mine is red with white top. Bought it in '99. Neal was pricey to say the least. Email details of your experience. I don't like to "air" things about people.

I don't like to needlessly put out people's dirty laundry either.. BUT had someone publicly warned me about him I would have saved myself enough money and time to have 2 nice 110's in my garage instead of a lawyer bill and an FBI file in my hand!!!!

Oh, and I can vouge for his truck being gorgeous upon completion. The pics of his truck were what gave me the confidence to give Mountain Rovers deposits for 3 110's. Really a nice piece.

Sorry to hear that Wookie. Took me a while to get the truck from him, and also had some problems. Ironic that it was my truck that made you decide to buy three. Small world.. and thanks for the plug..

Hey wap,

Do you have any pics yet? If so, please email them to me. Also, did the truck receive the DOT Stickers when they imported/sold it to you?

Thanks!

Hi, the 110 was imported as parts. (and in parts) no DOT etc. needed. built & Titled as a classic. It's a done deal.
No pics yet, working on it for the last 5 minutes.. (LOL ,it's 6.30am! I just woke up!) Sorry, will post ASAP.

Steve Y,

I am not a MOD or anything so you do not have to listen to me but why not start a thread in the general area to discuss the legality of frame swaps, updating a Series to a Defender and all of the other common things that come up instead of pissing on this guys post?

The information on how the Defender was titled was in the first post so it is not like he is trying to pull the wool over anyone’s eyes or deceive anyone. Let him post his stuff in peace and let people decide if they want to purchase it based on the information posted.

Just my .02

FWIW, I would really like to see such a thread also. It would be nice to have a definitive answer as to what is legal and what is not as far as importation, frame swapping, and engine swapping go. Links to relative government information would be great, too. There is a lot of internet misinformation out there and it would be great to clear this up once and for all. Maybe Chris or Mike can split this thread.
